Kurzbeschreibung

In 1969 Ex-Marine Ethan Coles arrives at Stoney Creek, a cattle station in the remote Australian outback to begin his new job as the resident school teacher, and is instantly drawn to the beautiful eighteen-year-old half cast girl called Amarin. Born and raised on Stoney Creek, Amarin has learned to look after herself. She is a tomboy through and through and can hold her own against any man, but she never thought she'd want to seduce a man, not until the arrival of the handsome American.

Ethan and Amarin find themselves drawn to one another and the attraction soon becomes obvious by the Stoney Creek residents, but not everyone is welcoming of the new school teacher and soon Ethan finds himself facing a menacing rival and having to defend his innocence when a murder rocks the town.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Compelling story, easy read 8. April 2014
Von K. Banes - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Under The Burning Sky is a compelling story of love and what can unexpectedly get in the way of it. Set in 1969, but with a contemporary feel to it, the story takes us from Chicago to a remote station in the Australian outback. The main character is hugely likable and the love story very tender and believable. As someone who has visited the Aussie outback I also found the setting very realistic.

A great choice if you like romance, with a real story behind it and a bit of intrigue. This is a novella so it's fairly short, and the writing style makes it a very pleasant, easy read.

Disclosure: I was fortunate to receive an advance copy of this book for review purposes. All opinions are my own.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Romance and Mystery in the Australian Outback 15. April 2014
Von E. Lucas - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
“Under the Burning Sky” is a novella set in the Australian outback; its protagonist, a Marine named Ethan, has recently come back from Vietnam and has traveled to the Stoney Creek cattle station serve as a teacher the children living there. His attention is instantly captured by the beautiful Amarin, who is fiercely guarded by her mother and just as fiercely coveted by Ryder, who works at the cattle station. As Ethan and Amarin find themselves drawn to one another both on a physical and emotional level, it seems like one wants them to be together—and at the same time, a murder rocks the town.

This novella is the first in a series, and it does an excellent job of developing characters so that you are invested in them, and building suspense so that you want to find out what happens next. Ethan’s character is set up immediately when, still in Chicago, he goes out of his way to stop a purse snatcher—as a hero, he’s strong and intelligent, attractive yet vulnerable in a new place all alone. Amarin is just as appealing; she’s headstrong and beautiful, and ready to grow up. Celia, her mother, lends a warm presence to the novel while Ryder is a menacing rival. The plot is well-paced, with the exotic (at least to me, since I’ve never been to Australia) location lending extra excitement to story.

I would recommend “Under the Burning Sky” to readers who enjoy romance and mystery stories, especially when those stories are set in another era.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A hero to like! 14. April 2014

I read this book in one sitting and enjoyed every minute. Loved the Australian setting, loved the hero and his backstory. All the characters are written with a lot of depth and the plot line of the novella is well written. I just had to know what would happen next. This is not your average read. Real people with less then fairy tale lives. Under the Burning Sky has a bit of everything...adventure…mystery…and romance. First time I read this author and found this tale impressive. I will continue to read her trilogy and am looking forward to the next installment. I highly recommend this engrossing tale set in the Australian “down-under”.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Beautiful Story!!1 13. April 2014

Under the Burning Sky is a fabulous book that I greatly enjoyed. My dad was in the war, so that part of the book really intereted me. And my son, Wes, is an active duty Marine, so, of course I LOVE Marines! I love how the story unfolds between Ethan and Amarin, even though the odds are stacked against them. I also liked Amarin over protective mother. I can't wait to read the next book in this series and I can't recommend it enough. Definitely a 5* book!
