Kurzbeschreibung

Deadly power lurks beneath Marina’s skin, wildness, a magical creature born of fire and ice.

Crossing dimensions to the Dragon Lands where she is a Princess and descendant from a powerful Phoenix, Marina has chosen to enter the tournament Aver to win the Frost Wreath. She must conquer four savage quests to be crowned Queen of the Ice Realm and win the right to hunt her mate, Dragon King Koen Raad.

Assassination attempts, a growing darkness in her adopted son, and the bloodthirsty quests of Aver itself. Marina's chances of survival grow dimmer by the day.

4.0 von 5 Sternen More like 3.5 stars 19. Januar 2014

I normally don't write reviews but I felt compelled for Burn. I loved Smolder. So much I have been compulsively checking amazon for Burn since the beginning of December (when it was supposed to come out). Burn picked up right where Smolder left us…and it was amazing! I sat there and read all 400 pages in one day. But I am left with so-so feeling about the book, mainly due to the fact the ending almost had me yelling at my e-reader.

*SPOILER*…He gave up her kid! That by no means is acceptable. And she just lets it go with little fuss. Yes, there is some initial protest but she ends back with him, has a couple of kids, and the epilogue picks up 7 years later! 7 years and she still hasn't gotten her Boy back! Ugh. Now I am just disgusted. Marina should've hightailed it to the Wastelands and gotten her Boy back and not put up with Koen until he fixed his mistake. I will wait and see how Ms. Fletcher spins the third book (there is going to be a third book right?) to hopefully make my absolute disgust with Marina more bearable. Let's just not wait 2 years for the next book please.

1.0 von 5 Sternen Totally Gutted 15. März 2014

I read the first book, it was great so I couldn't wait for the second one to come out; "SPOILER ALERT".............. burn continued with the same people and story so was easy to follow, the heroine fighting to complete quests to win her love (King Koen) while he supported her anyway he could, sounds good right? well this writer (who has totally annoyed the hell out of me) suddenly decided that the heroine would become ruled by her vagina! let me explain, in the first book, the heroine adopted a young boy who had been thrown away by his family (not pure blood) which made the hero his adopted father......... on the last quest when the heroine was attacked by another participant (against the rules) and thought dead by everyone including her hero, father and friends the hero (apparently in deep sorrow) gave the adopted son away to the same people who threw him away in the first place, he told the boy that his adopted mother wanted him to go back (he lied) and then the hero (having trouble calling him a hero now) went around blaming everyone for her death when he knew it was a possibility ...... the heroine is found days later and when she finds out that her adopted son was given away by the man she had been fighting for she initially becomes very angry and refuses to have anything to do with ANY of her friends, family or Koen BUT he climbs in her window one night and pushes her to have sex, and then she announces she is expecting twins and the hero says "I wont let them down" and they go on to live many years down the track; The epilogue starts the story of the given back adopted son and how he is managing in the desert being chased by his enemies (yup you guessed it, the same ones that he was given too)! you have to BUY the next book............... my issues are, what women would forgive any man for giving away her child (adopted or not) and what women would let that same man around her other children? the heroine turned into a orgasm addictive wimpy female AND might I add, the majority of woman would have cut off his balls rather then let anyone give there child away. Can I ask the writer why? if she wanted to have a follow on book she could have ended it at the point of the heroine being thought dead or thought more about how this would read by other woman............ so NO I will not be reading anymore of this series or possibly this writer....... fantasy this book may be but it still needs to be believable; I suppose the next book is where they all meet up again after we read about the trials the adopted son has to go through, forgive and forget with a happy ending, bah!

2.0 von 5 Sternen Great creativity, poor writing: a critique 28. Januar 2014
Von A.J. - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

As a fan of Smolder, as well as Penelope Fletcher's "Rae Wilder" series, I'm fairly familiar with Ms. Fletcher's work. After waiting near 2 years, Burn picks up exactly where Smolder left us, and continues to excite us with the twists and turns their tale takes. However, in the end and overall, the book was disappointing. Amidst *several* grammatical and spelling errors throughout the 400 or so odd pages, the writing at times was very disconnected and spotty, often leading to confusion over who was speaking, where the scene was taking place, etc. In addition to that, the inconsistency in the characters demeanors and personalities from Smolder, and the beginning to the end of this book, was really frustrating (re: Daniil, and Anastasia, as well as Mikhail and Cathryn). And finally, at the end, Marina is distraught over the situation with Boy, and she waits 7 years before deciding to do something extreme to get him back? That doesn't follow with the personality she started with in Smolder or at the beginning of Burn. All in all, I expected this from Ms. Fletcher, though her growth as a writer is evident, I just wished she had grown a bit more in terms of actual writing ability and consistency. If you want to continue the Marina story line then get this book, after all we waited so long for it, but don't expect drastic improvements in writing style or consistency. I intended this review to be constructive criticism, as Ms. Fletcher has extraordinarily accomplished creative and imaginative ability.

2.0 von 5 Sternen It could have been SO good! 12. Februar 2014

Eh! Over all, really annoying. Love the idea she's left for the next book, but don't think I could go thru another reading experience like Burn again... Am so annoyed I paid money for it, let alone $5. People say you should give the authors respect for their time and effort.  This book makes me doubt the author showed any respect to herself or the story.

To be fair, I will note that I had given up on this book ever coming out and had stopped looking altogether.  I only found out cause I must have signed up for notification after I finished Smolder... a LONG time ago.

Now the next paragraph is just about editing, but the one after is about the story and may likely contain spoilers - so read at your own risk.

Now, being 2 years late (originally advertised as being released in 2012), one would think that it would give them enough time to perhaps run spell check over it... Or better yet... Do an edit or gramma check? There are parts in it that seem to be literally cut and pasted around (which is fine, some writers don't write in a straight line, they write scenes and then fit them together), but with a bit missed or dumped in the wrong place. Found myself retracing the last few pages to try and figure out how the hell the story just moved from this to that.  And going with the cut and paste theory, while reworking sentences the words were not corrected... a lot! You'd end up reading 'found out' instead of 'finding out', which doesn't seem a problem until you dump them both in the same sentence and one of them no longer works.

The Story - Overall, it was really jumpy.  And some parts were cut to the point, there is your info, while other bits were drawn out and pondered over.

Let just note that the first book took place over a week, that's it. One week and book two picks up right were we left off. So, all of a sudden our freaky resourceful friend Cat rocks up and gets in her face all about how worry she had been that Marina had vanished and she was so worried and had mourned etc.  Not a bad rant at someone who upped and move to a different dimension with out sending a post card. Until you remember she has just been told about the time difference and if you have a think about it, the boys noted that it was about 4 Tionz years to each Earth day... And at MOST we are into her first week and a half in the big T. So mere moments.

Then there are the incorrect reminders from book one, ie falling off Daniil's back on the cross over.  If you're gunna write a series at least check the details from the previous books. And let not get me started on the sequence of aver challenges and their numbering/titling etc. Second, third, next, second, other...

There are bits of it I loved, but then others that made no sense either within the story or for the characters.  Parts the were skipped over or seemed to be ignored or left out that were important or stuff that didn't benefit the story at all that were given priority.

Ok, here's a spoiler.  In the last section where Marina kept flip-flopping between the worst betrayal ever to 'eh, shit happens' just PISSED ME RIGHT OFF!  I mean come on, they gave your child over to those they consider their enemies and the scum of scums - by telling him you wanted it that way... But gim'me a month or two and she'll be ducks. Oh, and then we'll listen to him and leave your kid as cannon fodder before you finally get jack of it and throw a tanty 7 years later! WTF!

Great story line but there are way too many words to get to point. Just lost interest and skimmed through it.
