Kurzbeschreibung

Create rich interactivity with Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG)

Dive into SVG—and build striking, interactive visuals for your web applications. Led by three SVG experts, you’ll learn step-by-step how to use SVG techniques for animation, overlays, and dynamic charts and graphs. Then you’ll put it all together by building two graphic-rich applications. Get started creating dynamic visual content using web technologies you’re familiar with—such as JavaScript, CSS, DOM, and AJAX.

Discover how to:

  • Build client-side graphics with little impact on your web server
  • Create simple user interfaces for mobile and desktop web browsers
  • Work with complex shapes and design reusable patterns
  • Position, scale, and rotate text elements using SVG transforms
  • Create animations using the Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language (SMIL)
  • Build more powerful animations by manipulating SVG with JavaScript
  • Apply filters to sharpen, blur, warp, reconfigure colors, and more
  • Make use of programming libraries such as Pergola, D3, and Polymaps

5.0 von 5 Sternen Chock full of examples, easy to read with lots of leads to other resources 22. August 2012
Von William Frost - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch|Verifizierter Kauf
I was impressed with:
First, the easy reading from chapter to chapter. It wasn't choppy and disjointed like most educational books and this allows one to take in so much more information because the mind is more relaxed.
Second, the book is full of examples with code samplings and simple steps to complete a wide range of applications. I love examples and seeing how others write when coding.
Third, the book frequently refers to resources and sites where one can go for more information which keeps the book from getting bogged down in details for the more advanced programmer but provides a less experienced person with tools to bone up on when they need the extra help.
I also like the description where the author spells out the recommended knowledge level for this book. I think its spot on.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Great Intro and Reference for SVG 1.1 15. Juli 2013
Von Financial Reader - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
This is a great book covering the latest version of SVG. SVG is one of those technologies that was developed a long time ago and has only recently become supported by all the major web browsers. As usual, Micro$oft waited forever to get SVG support into IE and so the whole world had to suffer. Now that SVG support has reached all the mainstream browsers (yes even IE believe it or not), the true power demonstrated in this book can finally be unlocked.

Despite the "Microsoft" branding on the cover, this book does not take any position on development environment or specific tools -- which is great. Don't worry, there is no Visual$tudio evangelization and no trying to get me to write some s*** Micro$oft abstraction code that will generate garbage SVG. This book really is about pure, standards-based SVG. It's almost ironic that Microsoft's logo is on the cover since they spent nearly a decade ignoring SVG and effectively trying to kill it. I took a pair of scissors and cut out the logo and now I can read this book peacefully.

Finally, this book is a great teaching resource and also a great reference. The topics are logically organized like a desk reference should be. The first chapter does the typical whirl-wind tour many instruction books use throughout and then teach various aspects of SVG in an orderly and complete way.

Building Web Applications with SVG David Dailey
--------------------------------------------------

ISBN-13: 978-0735660120

This book is from Microsoft Press and like any other books from the publisher it is easy and nice to read.
The concepts are introduced so that even novice readers can read understand them. The book starts with the basics with case study of 13 examples from the web.
and then going on about creating various shapes and editing them. Then it discusses about
colors, gradients, clipping and masking, transforms etc. One whole chapter is dedicated to motion and interactivity using animation. The chapter on filters and combining filters are good too.

Highly recommend this book for all.

2.0 von 5 Sternen No table of contents on Kindle! 16. Oktober 2014
Von Anthony J. Fournier - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
My low rating is completely due to the Kindle version of this book missing a table of contents! This makes the book pretty much useless as a reference for SVG on Kindle. I really feel that I wasted my money on this. Should have known something would be screwy when I saw the "Microsoft" branding on the cover.
