This book is a labor of love. I know because my friend Debbie wrote it. She poured her heart and soul into this magnificent collection of photos and stories. Debbie is a photojournalist in every sense of the word: her photos jump right off the page and her stories behind the pictures put you right there in the middle of the action. She's also a passionate Bruce Springsteen fan. This book is not only a photo tribute to Bruce's stellar career - this one is for the fans.
Every Springsteen fan has a story. And this book is loaded with stories. From the Stone Pony to Giants Stadium and beyond, it's a keeper. And the photos Debbie managed to capture are a credit to her unmatched talent: you'll find Bruce and Little Steven, Bruce and Patti, Bruce and Southside Johnny, Bruce and Marshall Crenshaw, Bruce and Jon Bon Jovi, Bruce and Clarence, Bruce and the E Street Band, and, of course, Bruce and the fans.
Included are stories by talented writers giving their unique take on the ultimate showman and his marathon shows. Two of my favorites are by Matty Karas and Bob Makin, basically because they used to hang out with us at the Stone Pony on Sunday nights when the only reason we showed up was to support the local bands (like Joey and the Works) that played there every week.
There are lots of books out there on Bruce, but this one is for us. Debbie got it right. You don't want to miss it. It's the story of a guy with a guitar captured by a girl with a camera. Check it out. The only thing missing in this book is a soundtrack. So put on some Bruce music, open the book at any page and enjoy the ride!
