A Tapestry of a Crime Thriller

This book is what I am talking about when I say "it's a five star book". It works on many levels, a lean mean crime story, a densely written loving portrait of heroes and bad guys, a story of manners worthy of Jane Erye, and portrait of a crime family not much different than any other family!
I loved it, a book I didn't want to end.
Oh, and for that reviewer who said it didn't reflect the real Brooklyn, etc, well to morph a line from Ronald Reagan, "Dude, I know Brooklyn and you definately don't know your Brooklynese." Also, it's good to remember these are novels, meaning they are actually made up stories, not documentaries.
I haven't read any of David Alexander's other novels, and judging from the reviews, I haven't wanted to. However this book is a fascinating story and a lavishly written portrait of crime and it's consequences.

A Tough Thriller With Class

I found Brooklynese to be an exceptional thriller. I enjoyed its blend of solid plotting and strong characterization. The global destinations of the crime caper that began in Brooklyn but then moved to Europe were also part of the imaginative way the story was handled. Top-notch all the way.

This book has all the dangerous charm of movies like The Italian Job but with a cutting edge and an ice-cold, deadly edge to the story that no movie (and in my considered opinion, few other books, either) can match or even get close enough to touch.
That this book has "Brooklyn" in its title, but is actually a stunning, savage crime thriller that moves on a global scale, should never be forgotten ... but I guess the title wouldn't work as "Brooklynese - Amsterdamese - Romese - Parisese - Moscowese - Londonese, etc." So I suppose Brooklynese is the best of all possible titles.

I've read this book in its print and its e-book editions and each time I want to come back for more because each time I read it I keep asking myself this one question: where else am I ever going to find a crime and action yarn as exciting and a bare-knuckles hard as Brooklynese? Well, I won't find it anywhere else, so I come back to the book, which has the kind of balls other crime writers wished they'd have but don't. Brooklynese ... it's a loaded gun ... and as far as my money goes it can't miss.
