It is a well made book, as is to be expected by anything carrying the name of Oxford University, but it is unfortunately not what it purports to be namely a guide. Instead it is an encyclopedia with a lot of entries, and a very brief section of thematic chapters in the middle of the book. The lexicon part is rather comprehensive but not all encompassing, e.g. it lacks the term ' eggs and soldiers', a detail maybe but a telling one.
The problem is who needs a lexicon in the days of Wikipedia, when it is much easier and much more comprehensive to look something up online than to leaf through a book.
If you are looking for a guide with subjects structured in sensible chapters, like sports, law, food etc and then comparing British and American cultures, you have to look somewhere else.
