Kurzbeschreibung

10. Juni 2009
A mysterious green gas released upon the world causes the earth's entire plant life to slowly wilt over and die. Oxygen levels drop to dangerously low readings bringing forth the birth of strange new technologies and surgical procedures to combat against the effects of the poison air. Flash forward ten years to the story of a group of survivors as they struggle to find salvation in the desolate world. With oxygen now completely non-existent in the air, their existence relies upon a strange machine to provide them with the clean air they need. After years of isolation, they encounter what appear to be other humans outside in the oxygen-deprived atmosphere. Uniting with their new friends and now hopeful, they embark on a mission to find more survivors. But the path ahead holds many dangers and one person in the group has been hiding a dark secret from them.

My review of debut novel Bringing Forth The End Of Days (2009) [ISBN-13: 9781608602032] by Simon Law.

There has been no choice for Thomas (Tom) and Susan, the children Jacob and Steven, the couple Karen and Jobe. They have to live in world destroyed during World War III. A world without oxygen. All oxygen has been vaporized over the years by a mysterious green gas it started in 2013. Early 2016 the PGOGM (Photo-synthetically Generated Oxygen and Glucose Machine) has been invented. Based on solar energy and rainwater it produce oxygen and food. Don't ask for details. But there are more dangers lurking the streets. Mutants with surgically attached PGOGM kill everyone who seems to be "normal". They call themselves Jehova Enforcers.

Tom and the other spend their life in a house whith a PGOGM in the town of Crawley (West Sussex, England) until the day when they decide to search more survivors .....

Simon Law did some interesting things which give the story a real unique and plausible touch.
The story is set in a real existing town. The main events take place in near future. The main characters try to follow a daily routine which is not that different compared with today - except we can leave the house whenever we want without problems. The story takes place years after the disaster. Simon Law reveals the events of the past in small potions which are perfect embedded in the daily life. To be honest I found the beginning of the book at the edge of being boring. But that changed after I have finished the book.

For me Bringing Forth The End Of Days is divided in two parts.
It starts with a very detailed and believable story about how survivors cope with life in this nightmare of a world. You also get to know in detail the past of the main characters.

4.0 von 5 Sternen End Of Days is worth it, in the end. 15. März 2010
Von Rev. Josef Jetstream - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
As big of a fan of the genre as I am, I haven't read nearly enough British Post-Apocalyptia. After this one, I'm ready to read quite a bit more. I was pleasantly surprised to find that that Bringing Forth had more of a unique take on the subject that I'd expected.

Initially it was hard to get into. The religion-soaked prologue had me a bit worried, and the sections that introduce the world are slow-going. Once you invest yourself a bit, and you find the author's rhythm, the plot thickens enough to keep you stuck-in for the duration. Fair warning, it can also be a fair bit brutal at times, but nothing you wouldn't expect from the end-of-the-world genre.

All in all, an entertaining book. A bit of trudge at times, but worth it in the end. I expect the author is a fan of Stephen King, you can tell in certain places...which isn't a bad thing, especially since the ending is more satisfying than most King stories I've read.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Very Interesting Apocalyptic Story! 24. Januar 2010
Von C. Brunner - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
The author spent most of the first part of the book setting up the story. I try to mostly read independent authors. I was one of the people given the oportunity to test this book on the kindle. I think that this was a good story if you get through the setup which is a little long. With a good editor this could be a great story. I thought the concept was one of the most original that I have ever read. The green fog that killed the plants seemed like a plausible thing that could happen. The detail that went into the technology that was fitted into the houses was interesting. The characters were real. They reacted and talked in a way that I found believable. I wanted them to succeed at the end. The ending took me by surprise. That does not happen to me very often. I felt so sorry for the little boy in the story Jacob. If this was on the kindle and edited, I would buy it at a reasonable price.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Great Novel - Must Read 10. Juli 2011

I really enjoyed this one-of-a-kind epic. I commend the author for great character development - not least of which being the inclusion of a loving interracial couple. The protagonist is greatly portrayed. I really connect with Tom - until, well...buy it and see. Thanks Simon
