Über den Autor und weitere Mitwirkende

Judy Andrekson grew up in Nova Scotia with a pen in one hand and a lead rope in the other. At the age of twenty, she moved to Alberta, where she could pursue her great love of horses, and there she found her dream job managing a thoroughbred racing/breeding farm. By her thirties, Judy had also begun to write seriously. Now she combines both of her passions in her new series for young readers, True Horse Stories. Judy also works as an educational assistant. She, her husband, John, and their daughter, Kate, live in Sherwood Park, Alberta, along with a constantly changing assortment of animals.

Not all heros live happily ever after 25. August 2010
Von Lynnda Ell - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Taschenbuch
"Brigadier" is a true story of a beautiful horse's working life as he served in the Toronto (Canada) Police Department. Judy Andrekson does a lovely job of bringing out the personality of this special horse. She shows the hard work, intelligence, and loyality Brigadier displayed as he worked with his human partners. Unfortunately, he was critically injured while on duty and had to be destroyed. The tender way Ms. Andrekson writes about the event would allow a young reader to feel the sorrow without expreiencing trauma. While written for 9 to 12 year-olds, both the text and occasional drawings can be enjoyed by all ages. I highly recommend it.

I received a free copy to review.

A horse who was loved 2. September 2010
Von Arador - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Taschenbuch
Brigadier is a young adult book about a horse who served with the Mounted Unit of the Toronto Police Department. It is written in a short chapter book style, with sketches scattered throughout. The book's focus is on Brigadier, a gentle giant of a horse who was loved by everyone he came into contact with. The book followed his journey from farm to active service with the unit. It outlines the basic training and routine these types of horses go through, and the bonds that they develop with their riders. Brigadier is shown as a patient, curious, and happy partner whom all his riders loved. Overall a good, though sad, book.

I liked it but needed kleenex 24. August 2010
Von rhonda - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Taschenbuch
I was given this book in exchange for honest review.
I enjoyed the book. It is an easy read except for needing kleenex.
Brigadier I would have liked to meat and pet him. Learned a little about how horses are trained, about canada mounted police and how horses are all different.
It was deffinately worth my time to read this book.

There is no greater love than that of a man and his horse..... a quote so true in spirit and reality. 22. Juni 2014
Von Mary Lee Rogers - Veröffentlicht auf

I knew from the prologue it wasn't going to end the way I would have preferred, but I had to read it nonetheless. My heart aches for this precious one of Gods' Gifts but I know that all who saw, rode and touched him, was touched BY him. I'm devastated by his loss and the inhumanity that made the perpetrator use a three thousand pound van to purposely run into this beautiful creature in order to destroy him. I'm going to borrow a quote I read as a tribute to this beautiful and big hearted gentle giant...... "I read somewhere once that there was no greater love than that of a man and his horse. How true, for none that have a love of such beautiful of God's creatures, could ever imagine life without them. I believe it is true, than no other of God's creatures can fly without wings or conquer without a sword. Our heartfelt sympathies go to each of you that shared in Brig's life and he in yours. May you always know that when you turn around and hear hoofbeats, he is closely guarding you." Truer words will never be written. What a tragic loss.
