Kurzbeschreibung

For the last year and a half, I have worked on this manuscript at a feverish pace. I would write on weekends, late at night, and sometimes sandwiched between clients. I wrote parts at 30,000 feet on cross-country plane flights.

My efforts were driven by a recognition that wherever I taught there was a general misunderstanding about altered states of awareness, and that some of these errors were actually hindering people in their personal growth and, in some cases, posing serious dangers.

This book is a humble attempt to correct some of this misinformation and to give readers practical tools that they can use to access the mysterious, beautiful, and incredible treasures of their own inner worlds.

We are at a significant period in human history. The rate of discovery in the sciences outpaces our ability to keep up with the amount of information generated. It is very telling that over the short course of eighteen months it took to write this book, there were two significant discoveries in the brain sciences that necessitated my editing portions of the manuscript.

At no time in recorded history have we acquired so much knowledge in so short a time.

Knowledge is power. But knowledge carries with it a shadow side. For without wisdom to use that knowledge in life affirming ways, we may very well destroy ourselves.

The ancient Chinese ideogram for transformation consists of two words — danger and opportunity. All transformations involve change whether it be the transformation of biochemistry into mind or the transformation of a society.

In the ever-growing complex world in which we live, we must transcend our old ways of viewing and doing things. We must discover new ways to learn and to work. This is as true on an economic level as it is on a personal one. Those societies that educate themselves to be the most creative and motivated may well be those which flourish in the coming century. And on a personal level, access to our greater potential gifts us with new levels of fulfillment and success.

It is my experience that altered states of awareness can assist us to reach beyond our current views of ourselves, and to discover a rich and powerful inner world. The insights, creativity, and sensitivity born from our own inner exploration can help us to wrestle free opportunities for greater life and growth.

This is the value I see in learning how to access one’s deeper consciousness. And that is why I wrote this book.

Although we may never meet, and although I can reach out to you only with words, I trust and believe in your greatness. For no matter where we are in our attainments, we can always go further. I hope the following pages entertain, educate, and enlighten you. May they persuade you to take the Great Journey.

Format: Taschenbuch
At the back cover of this book there are such glowing reviews such as "Sensational book ... pivotal work ... provocative reading ...", but this book contains barely any thoughts that originate from the writer of this book. It is essentially a compillation of excerpts from books and techniques that have been around for a very long time - like Image Streaming Technique from The Einstein Factor by Win Wenger, Microcosmic Orbit from Awakening Healing Light of Tao by Mantak Chia, bits and pieces from NLP Techniques - mainly dealing with submodalities) and the work of Richard Bandler, bits and pieces from Vibrational Medicine by Richard Gerber, etc.

In the foreword to this book the author writes "I would write this book on weekends, late at night, and sometimes sandwiched between clients. I wrote parts at 30,000 feet on cross country plane flights" - and that's exactly how this book reads.

There are many other books that present works of other people, and that this book doesn't seem to have any original thoughts coming from the author (except few insights he got from his dog) wouldn't be a problem - the problem is that the book has no flow to it and every few sentences, as the author seems to change his state of mind, you are thrown into another direction, never sure if you're coming or going.

Since the book is entitled "Brain States", I have actually expected that that is what is book is going to be about, but there is only one chapter with 9 pages that deals directly with brain states.

Every once in a while, the author uses metaphors which I'm not sure how helpful they are in helping the reader to understand the main point.

Every once in a while, the author uses metaphors which I'm not sure how helpful they are in helping the reader to understand the main point. For example, to help the reader better understand neurons, he compares them to amoebas, and concludes that amoebas and neurons are not animals, but very few animals can live without them. I don't know if that was supposed to be funny or insightful, but there are books that much better explain neuroanatomy, that few pages at the beginning of this book.

It seems that the author has attempted to present here so many different techniques from different traditions and modalities and which may be helpful in alleviating problems or boosting performance that practically none of them are adequately explained.

The choice of books from which the excerpts for this book are taken is good and the reader would derive much greater benefit by reading those books. In that respect, I believe the 6 pages of the Appendix C with Resources to be the most valuable part of this book.

I do not think that this is a bad book, this text is for a person who wants to know a little bit of everything, of course, if you have planned to get a bachelor of Medicine or Neuroanatomy then do not buy this book and get something more specialized and not as cheap as this.

If you do not have time to read a big book with brain information and many of its branches then this is the perfect solution for you.

This book gives an overview of the brain and techniques that can be used to enhance it. I have always liked neurolinguistic programming, NLP and this book has a chapter describing it. People are geared towards visual – seeing, auditory – hearing, kinesthetic – physical sensation, olfactory – smell and gustatory – taste. We usually communicate, along one of those lines. I see where you're coming from. I hear you. It touches my heart. This line of question smell. Those questions leave a bad taste in my mouth. We express ourselves in those kinds of ways. Other techniques center on increasing performance, self-healing, lucid dreaming and others.I like this book for people who haven't spent a great deal of time reading on the subject. If you read a lot about the brain, techniques and various states of it ;you probably will just find the book to be OK.
