Technologie, die heute eine weltweit akzeptierte Batterie-Technologie darstellt.
Es wird beschrieben, welche Forscher warum sich mit der Materie beschäftigten, um
ein gutes Batteriesystem bereitzustellen, welches auch als sogenannte Lithium-Ionen-
technologie weltweit den Siegeszug antrat (Handys, Laptop, Powertools, EV etc.).
Es werden die grossen Pioniere wie Huggins, Goodenough,
Wittingham und Armand und ihre herausragenden Leistungen besprochen.
Sehr nett und interessant geschrieben und die Hintergründe der Li-Ionen-Technologie
werden entsprechend beleuchtet.

"Bottled Lightning" - der Titel schreckte mich zunächst ab, befürchtete ich doch wieder eines dieser oberflächlichen Bücher, die auf dem jeweils neuesten Technik-Trend reiten. Die Hintergründe der sich am Horizont abzeichnenden Lithium-Wirtschaft sind dann aber gut recherchiert, wie das umfangreiche Quellenregister und die geschilderten Eindrücke von Kongressen und auf Reisen zeigen. Jedem, der in den noch unsicheren Markt der Elektrofahrzeuge investieren will, ob aus Begeisterung oder purem Interesse an den Geschäftsperspektiven, sei dieses Buch ans Herz gelegt. Themen, die sonst im Schatten liegen, weil sie in der Tagespresse nicht behandelt werden, wie Patentkonflikte um Batterietechnologien, das Tauziehen um die Lithium-Resourcen, der industrielle Aufbau der Produktionskapazitäten, Vor- und Nachteile der Batterieformen werden in "Bottled Lightning" gut ausgeleuchtet.
Zu beachten ist, dass der Autor aus der US-amerikanischen Perspektive schreibt. Die Eigenheiten der Entwicklung des E-Autos in Deutschland sind nicht Thema des Buches. Das Amerikanisch-Englisch ist nicht zu anspruchsvoll, so dass sich das Buch besonders auf dem Kindle, wo das Nachschlagen von Vokabeln ein Kinderspiel ist, zügig lesen lässt.
Zu beachten ist, dass der Autor aus der US-amerikanischen Perspektive schreibt. Die Eigenheiten der Entwicklung des E-Autos in Deutschland sind nicht Thema des Buches. Das Buch zeigt in leicht verständlicher aber dennoch interessanter Sprache die Entstehung der Batterien, ihren Einsatz in den ersten Autos (!), Untergang und dem aktuellen Wiederaufstieg auf. Es hilft zu verstehen, warum es so schwierig ist, mit E-Autos eine gute Reichweite (bezahlbar) zu erreichen.
