Produktbeschreibungen

Amazon.com

"In art, as long as you have ideas and think, you are bound to deform nature. Art is deformation." So says Fernando Botero--artist of voluptuous bodies and distorted landscapes, whose paintings and sculptures challenge our conceptions of size and space. Collected within this colorful edition are 62 works from Latin America's best-known living artist. Commentaries on every featured piece give fascinating insight into the world of Botero--a place of opulence, abundance, and fantasy. --Naomi Gesinger

Kurzbeschreibung

Focusing on the Colombian artist, Fernando Botero (born 1932), this is one of a series of illustrated monographs which offer introductions to modern art and artists. Each book presents a profile of the artist and analysis of his distinctive style. Best known for his voluptuous, other-worldly figures, Botero sees distortion of forms as the essence of art, and he often reworks familiar images by artists such as Leonardo, Cezanne, Valezquez and Manet in his own distinctive style. One section of the book is devoted entirely to these "paraphrases", while other chapters focus on self-portraits, nudes, still-lifes, figures and characters, and life in Colombia.

lots of pictures of his beautiful bountiful work. Botero is in a class of his own. what a delight looking inside the mind of such a great painter.

Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
This is a wonderful book, photographed and printed beautifully. It revels in the textures of Botero's sculptures, (mostly large scale bronzes) and in their almost pneumatic volumes. Botero has always loved volume, generous and voluptuous volume, and he has always loved to play with scale, as one can see readily in his drawings and paintings. Nothing could be more natural for him than to make sculpture, where he could play with volume and scale and use his wry humor to delicious effect.

Until I saw this book, I had not been aware of how many sculptures Botero had made, but this thick tome shows there are many of them, and most have a magical and monumental presence, no matter what their actual size. I highly recommend this book, which will delight and amaze anyone who is inclined to like Botero's work.

Monumental and Playful Sculptures Are a Treat 18. Juni 2000

Colors a bit off, but good overall 12. Juli 2009
Von Eugene Tenenbaum - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
As in all titles in the Great Modern Masters series published by Abrams: Colors are not vibrant, often with a brownish tint or/and too dark, and their accuracy is just O.K. There are 64 pages of a good size 9.5x12 inches (24x30.5 cm). It begins with an introduction with 5-6 small b&w pictures on 2 pages, which is followed by a biography with 5-6 small b&w pictures on 2 next pages. The rest is dedicated to good size over 60 full color plates divided into chapters dedicated to artist's carrier periods, style directions, or themes, each described by 12-16 lines of text. The series is inferior to the same size paperback series published by Taschen in 1990s, but superior to Taschen's series of smaller sizes published latter. Unfortunately, the Taschen series does not cover Bacon, Botero, Brancusi, Braque, Calder, de Chirico, Johns, Kokoschka, Leger, Man Ray, Malevich, Modigliani, and Rouault this series does.
