Über den Autor und weitere Mitwirkende

A self-taught photographer, Eric Meola opened his own studio in 1971; by 1975, he photographed the cover for Bruce Springsteen’s album Born to Run and began shooting major advertising campaigns as well. For more than twenty years he has done editorial and corporate photography for major clients and agencies. In 1983, he joined The Image Bank stock photo agency. Meola’s photographs are included in the archive of the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP), the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C., the International Center of Photography in New York, the George Eastman House and the Museum of Modern Art in Munich.
Daniel Wolff is a poet and author of the award-winning You Send Me: The Life and Times of Sam Cooke and The Memphis Blues Again, and a Grammy nominee. His work has appeared in Vogue, The Nation, Doubletake, and his poetry in the Paris Review, the Partisan Review and the Threepenny Review.
Bruce Springsteen is an American singer, songwriter and guitarist. His most famous albums, Born to Run and Born in the U.S.A., epitomize the search for grandeur in the everyday struggles of life.

"Well I Got This Guitar And I Learned How To Make It Talk..."
(Bruce Springsteen/ Thunder Road)

Sparks fly on E Street 31. Oktober 2006
Von J. Lammers - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe
This beautifully designed book takes you inside a historic moment in rock: When Springsteen finished "Born to Run" and stood on the edge of greatness. Everything was at stake and anything was possible. Meola captures perfectly the guy, the time, the feeling. It's an intimate look that words could not convey. Buy it. The clincher: The money goes to a good cause, New Jersey's food bank.

Worth the wait 9. Januar 2007
Von Bruce D. Nibbs - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe
When I opened up this book for the first time I couldn't believe to quality of the production.

There is a protective cardboard box which encases a display box for the book itself.

The display box is a little larger than the size of a vinyl album and then when opened there is a copy of an album cover on the inside and the book on the other.

Each book has a signed and numbered reference from Meola to record which copy of the 1350 published is yours and a reference to the fact that all of Meola's proceeds are being donated to the Community Food Bank of New Jersey.

They say that a picture is worth a thousand words and these speak volumes. As you can imagine there are a number of shots which have been taken close together so you pick up on the character and personality of Springsteen. The standard of photographs is outstanding and have been reproduced in this book to an excellent standard.

There are also the lyrics reproduced from the album which when combined with the photos make this an oustanding production.

If you can make the investment, buy the limited edition as it is such a high quality and worthwile production.
The Unseen Photos 12. März 2011
Von Spider Monkey - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe
`Born to Run: The Unseen Photos' is a large format hardback book that shows us some photos from the Born to Run album cover shoot that were unused and previously unseen. This has a brief introduction from the photographer before we get to the photos themselves. Some are alternative shots from the album and feel vaguely familiar and others are outtakes and offer a fresh perspective to some now iconic images. All the photos are in black and white and there are also the lyrics from the album interspersed throughout. This makes for an excellent coffee table book for Springsteen fans and it's large vinyl album size format is a pleasure to browse through. It doesn't offer up loads of info or substance but it gives you style in abundance.

Feel free to check out my blog which can be found on my profile page.
For real old school fans only 3. Januar 2008

We just took a ton of photos of my 6 month old twin girls for our Christmas card. Looking at all those digital images trying to decide which was the best shot reminded me a lot of looking at this book. A lot of pictures of the subjects (in their case Bruce and Clarence Clemons and in my case Katie and Maggie) in a couple of different outfits in poses only slightly different from the shot before. After awhile they all start to look alike until finally you just say, "Uhh, that one," the person next to you agrees and you have your album cover/Christmas card.

Seriously, I am a big Springsteen fan and liked both his music and his look from that time best, so the book was a must for me, but if you're not that kind of fan and like Springsteen because you think he is or was cute--this ain't the book for you.
Opportunity to see a classic album cover in the making 14. Mai 2007

There are some really fantastic photographs in this book. Born to Run is a classic album with a classic cover. These previously unseen images are very clear and detailed and give a great insight into the 1975 album photo shoot. In my mind, it's hard imaging any other image gracing the cover. However there is a unique opportunity with this book to see what could have been. If you love rock photographs and you're a Springsteen fan I recommend this book.
