A riveting truth about Jamaica

Finally a voice comes out of the wilderness of Jamaica's ghettos to tell the truth, though the voice is that of an American writer. With riveting honesty, Laurie Gunst describes the human toll taken by a culture of violence as she follows members of the underbelly of Jamaican society from Kingston to New York. I'm Jamaican and I cried when I read this book that was so obviously written with love for Jamaica. Thank you, Laurie Gunst! I hope you have the chance to read this review. I also hope many Jamaicans will read "Born Fi Dead". It's a truth that needs to be heard.

Very good research.
It is often said Jamaica is too great to be in the current economic turmoil. This book by Laurie highlights a number of factors which caused Jamaica to be in the rut they are.
Now more than ever, they have proof and transparency of the causal issues, Jamaicans need to come together, use constitutional rights to remove all the corrupt politicians and put back this wonderful country on a path to real economic growth and stability.

This book takes the reader on a journey of the Jamaican Posse underground. From the shores of Jamaica and the slums of the ever violent Kingston to the inner cities of the USA which were invaded by the posses in the crack era and literally taken over. By examining several different members from several different posse Gunst paints a vivid picture of life in the outlaw, gun slinging, marijuana, Rasta culture that these posse members inhabit. She looks at all the political and socioeconomical reasons why the gangsters end up how they are and why they do what they do. Like i said a vivid and mesmerizing book, well researched and written and one of the best on Jamaican Posses along side The Shower Posse by Duane Blake who had their own segment on BET'S American Gangster series and who have been featured in F.E.D.S. magazine. But definitely check this book out if you are into this underworld and black gangster stuff this is a good read. A little academic but still good.
