Kurzbeschreibung

}How to Read People's Minds from Their Actions{. From }Big Brother's{ resident psychologist. Illus.

Synopsis

The way you stand when you're talking to others, how you move your feet, your hands, your eyes - even your eyebrows - says a lot about your commitment to a conversation and your underlying attitude. Your actions and stance can also affect how long you get to talk and how often you get interrupted. Even when you're seated, the position of your arms and legs provides a wealth of information about your mood and intentions, showing whether you feel dominant or submissive, preoccupied or bored. But "tells" aren't confined merely to conversations; when you are alone you are constantly shifting your body - and each movement, each gesture provides clues about your state of mind. In this book, Peter Collett, social psychologist and Big Brother's resident psychologist, introduces the reader to the fascinating concept of "tells", showing how they work, where they come from and how to identify and interpret them. Whilst sensitizing readers to the motives and actions of other people, this guide also focuses on the messages that we unwittingly send, and the impact that these might have on those around us.

The book offers a unifying vocabulary for understanding human communication and social influence - and an opportunity to read yourself, and others.

I notice things I never would have noticed before 31. August 2004
Von K. Olsen - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
"Tells" are actions which reveal valuable information about what people are really thinking or feeling. They are used regularly when playing poker, but Peter Collett takes it a step farther and applies the usefulness of "Tells" to everyday life. He talks about tells used to show dominance, submissiveness, sexual signals, tells used while smoking, political tells, international tells, etc.

I picked up this book at a Waterstones in the UK; It's a shame that it's not readily available on the US version of amazon.com because I found it to be a really interesting read. At times, the author became repetitive or stated the obvious, but this book was packed with tons of little interesting facts. It was a fairly quick read, and quite rewarding and entertaining as well because each time I would pick it up, I could find people around me who were using postures or other "Tells" that had just been described in the book. I'm now much more aware of the signals that I send out as well as those that others send out. Recognizing and deciphering these tells adds a whole new dimension to every social interaction/observation I have. Of course, this book won't teach you to read minds, but when accompanied with good sense and intuition it can make your life a little bit more fun.

Read the Subconscious 19. Mai 2005
Von CZ - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch|Von Amazon bestätigter Kauf
We all send and receive subconscious body language every day. Even the handshake leaves one person a little more powerful, and the other, a little less. There are no evens. That is way of the animal kingdom.

If you are an evolutionary biology fan, or if you just want to learn how to consciously read what others are unconsciously sending, you need this book.

If you want to use it to try to send signals in your favour, you will learn what to do and when, but your basic instincts will always take over, and you will be yourself again, sooner than you like, but absolutely! We can fool our friends, and you might fool your mother, but you will never fool Mother Nature.

Excellent book. Enjoyed it very much. And yes... the sexual tells are the first section you want to read. Then, you will want to know how to see who is really the alpha female/male in your group. You might be surprised.

Awesome book! A must purchase for everyone! 30. August 2005
Von M. Klusas - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
Communication theory teaches us that 80% of what we communicate is non-verbal. But do you know what you are saying? Do you know how to interpret what others are saying non-verbally? After you start reading this book, you'll realize that you previously did not.

I heard about this book through a BBC program I watched on power tells and the non-verbal tells of Gordon Brown regarding Tony Blair. The program was great, and when I had time to read the book, I quickly ordered.

The book is so logical and so obvious in some ways, you're tempted not to credit the author with truly brilliant writing. Yet, even though you'll swear you knew the tells mentioned in this book after you read it, the truth is that you never truly thought about it before picking up the book. That is the genius of this book.

I couldn't put it down. Bravo!
