Received the travel press, from the first look there is no doubt the construction of the product is solid and the ergonomics are fine, no need to write more on those 2 points. So now let's make coffee: the right amount of coffee with the right amount of hot water in the coffee press, then 5 minutes later, just pressed the piston to filter the coffee grains down... that is where I have a few observations:
- the piston's course is too short by about 2cm to really get all the juice, this is the best part of the coffee you can't drink because the filter keeps it down with the coffee foam by capillarity.
- filter is fine so far but I fear the durability of the soft seal ring of it might not be long compared to a more traditional french press all metal filter construction. This is some kind of a non sense considering the solidity of the rest of the travel press.
- coffee stays warm and for a long time thanks to a well thought isolation.
To sum it up, nice product just as most of the bodum catalog, this press would just deserve a better filter construction along with a longer piston to get all of the coffee you can get in quantity and quality (fixed this, recycling my previous french press' filter and piston). As it is originally designed, it's good to make american style coffee, would probably work well for tea too...
