Gr. 9-12. Like the power brokers that are their parents and ancestors, members of the popular clique at New York's Duchesne School are Blue Bloods, continually reincarnated vampires endowed with preternatural beauty, charisma, and strength. The plot revolves around several teens, unaware of their heritage, who begin to manifest their true natures during a terrifying spate of vampire-to-vampire violence. At book's end, nonconformist Schuyler has emerged as heroine, having discovered a rift in Blue Blood history that lays the groundwork for forthcoming books. Grafting the chick-lit sensibility of her Au Pairs books onto horror themes, de la Cruz introduces a conception of vampires far different from traditional stake-fleeing demons, coupling sly humor ("What, the Committee was just a front for a bunch of blood-sucking B-movie monsters?") with the gauzier trappings of being fanged and fabulous--as well as abundant references to the taboo-laden "taking" of human familiars, a procedure with overtly sexual overtones. Although the novel isn't sure quite what it wants to be (satire? beach read? gothic saga?), many teens will savor the thrilling sense of being initiated into an exclusive secret society, and will doubtless want to drink deeply from the vampire-themed offerings suggested in the adjacent "Read-alikes" column. Grade 9 Up–De la Cruz has revamped traditional vampire lore in this story featuring a group of attractive, privileged Manhattan teens who attend a prestigious private school. Schuyler Van Alen, 15, the last of the line in a distinguished family, is being raised by her distant and forbidding grandmother. Schuyler, her friend Oliver, and their new friend Dylan are treated like outsiders by the clique of popular, athletic, and beautiful teens made up of Mimi Force, her twin brother, and her best friend. What they have in common is the fact that they are all Blue Bloods, or vampires. They don't realize that they aren't normal until they reach age 15. Then the symptoms manifest themselves and they begin to crave raw meat, have nightmares about events in history, and get prominent blue veins in their arms. Their immortality and way of life are threatened after Blue Blood teens start getting murdered by a splinter group called the Silver Bloods. This novel constantly name-drops and is full of product placements, drinking, drugs, nonexplicit sex, and superficial characterizations, but the intriguing plot will keep teens reading. De la Cruz's explanation for the disappearance of the Colony of Roanoke is unique and the idea that models don't gain weight because they are Blue Bloods rather than anorexic is unusual.–Sharon Rawlins, NJ Library for the Blind and Handicapped, Trenton

The beginning of this book really captured my interest although I did think about giving up on the book about 100 pages in. However I was rewarded for reading till the end. The story became interesting again and the cliffhanger ending has left me wanting more.
Not being really up to date on my American history I did struggle a little with certain aspects of the book. Also the 'teenagers' did get on my nerves sometimes but all in all this was a great book with a new twists on the 'vamp' story and some good characters which I am sure I will love more as the series goes on.
Worth trying. Don't give up!

Recently, the world of the undead has been sweeping its way into young adult novels, making sure that the vampires are prominently featured. Melissa de la Cruz, author of the popular series THE AU PAIRS, makes sure that she adds her own twist on vampires in her new series, BLUE BLOODS.
Schuyler Van Alen believed that she was just a normal teenager, living a normal life, and just didn't seem to fit in. Attending a private school isn't the world that Schuyler wanted to enter, what with all of the high fashion when she would rather wear her "unfashionable" clothes. But she never thought she would enter the world of the vampires, either.
When she turns 15, Schuyler discovers some major changes in herself, like the veins in her arms that are distinctly blue. And the blue veins can only mean that she is part of the Blue Bloods, a group of vampires whose ancestors go as far back as the Mayflower. Being a Blue Blood isn't so bad, right?
Well, when a murder takes place and a popular guy starts to notice you, Schuyler knows that there is something strange going on, and it's up to her to crack all of the society's secrets and to keep herself out of danger while doing it.
Melissa de la Cruz does not disappoint with BLUE BLOODS. The world that Ms. de la Cruz has created is not only unique but also very intriguing. Fans of the vampire world will definitely want to add this to their collection, and will be looking forward to MASQUERADE, the next novel in the series.

Ich finde die Geschichte sehr langweilig...
Die Story ist irgendwie unverständlich, Es passiert nichts und der ständige Sichtwechsel nervt, da man eigentlich etwas über die Hauptfigur Shuyler erfahren will und nicht über den langweiligen Rest...
Ich habe mir überlegt das Buch nicht zu Ende zulesen, habe aber jedoch die nächsten 2 Teile gekauft und gehofft Melissa de la Cruz rettet die Serie noch.. doch wieder einmal wurde ich leider enttäuscht...
Ich habe mich über einen Super Teenager Vampirroman gefreut, doch es ist nichts daraus geworden...ich empfehle lieberdie House of Night Serie oder die Die True Blood Reihe.
