“She was supposed to kill vampires, not save them. Those were the rules. That was the lore.”

A rare and powerful witch whose blood is lethal to vampires, Leila has always viewed her serryn abilities as a curse. After seeing her mother slaughtered as a child, Leila longs for a safe, quiet life.

That wish is shattered by Caleb Dehain – a vampire with a dark past and a darker heart. The most feared serryn hunter of his generation, Caleb now needs the help of one of the witches he despises to save his dying brother.

A serryn who has no reason to help him. Except that he has her sister.

Caleb and Leila are each other’s worst nightmare – but the slow-burning spark of attraction between them is undeniable. Will Leila’s blood be his damnation? Or could her kiss be his salvation?

Combining sizzling passion and dark, sinfully seductive vampire heroes, Lindsay J. Pryor's writing is an exciting new find for those who love paranormal romance and urban fantasy.

If you're a fan of J.R Ward, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Lara Adrian, Jeaniene Frost, Kelley Armstrong, Christine Feehan or Kresley Cole then you'll love Lindsay J. Pryor's books too.

Praise for Blood Roses

'Blood Roses was an awesome continuation of the Blackthorn series. Not only are Pryor’s characters and fathomlessly dark love stories fabulous, but her continual world building of Blackthorn blows me away. Blood Roses is a highly recommended read!

‘It pulls no punches, its heroes are on the edge, and its sex scenes are off the charts.'

‘I felt as much a part of the emotional rollercoaster the characters themselves. Needless to say, I devoured the book in a single sitting! After reading the first two books of the Blackthorn series I am definitely on the Lindsay Pryor fan bandwagon!’

This is a deliciously dark book. This isn't your typical happily ever after story, and I think that's what drew me to the series in the first place. This is the second book I've read, and I honestly think it's better than the first.’ RomFan Reviews

‘…paranormal romance mixed with urban fantasy the way I like it - clever world-building, intense characters and no easy options for them to take.’ Nocturnal Book Reviews

1.0 von 5 Sternen Horrible, horrible, horrible 9. August 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
I'm not in the habit of writing reviews for books, but for this one I couldn't help myself. After reading the first book, which I enjoyed, I thought, why not give this series a go. Big mistake. This book is horrible. I don't mean to exaggerate, it's well and truly horrible. I always finish my books, no matter how bad, but with this one, I simply couldn't, although I made myself suffer through 80% of it.

We have the hero, Caleb. I have never before read a book with such an unlikable, idiotic, abusive hero. He constantly mistreats the Leila, never believes anything she says to be true, doubts her character and insults her at every turn. Of course this doesn't stop from screwing her, the reason for why he might want to do this when he obviously despises her, is beyond me.

Then there is Leila, a weak willed, no backbone, mistreatment and abuse taking one of a kind female hero. Spoiler! She gets locked up as thanks for helping Caleb, mistreated, abused, and insulted, but still sleeps with the guy, if I remember correctly all within about 24 hours. Then, through more abuse, mistreatment and sex, she falls in love with him and he with her. Not that there is ever an indication what makes them fall in love with one another, as every interaction is a confrontation, abuse, mistreatment or insult.

Isn't that what you want to read, when you chose a paranormal romance novel. NO, NO, NO! Stockholm syndrome is not cute. Falling in love with an abusive man is not cute. Not having the strength to walk away from someone that mistreats you is not cute. None of this is fun to read, unless you're into that kind of stuff, which I think is safe to say that most readers are not.

After a very promising first book, this was the biggest let-down in a long time for me. I don't think I will even give the third book in the series a try. I hope the author can find her way back to the quality of the first book in this series.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Another Exciting Book! 23. April 2013
Von Rhonda Valverde - Veröffentlicht auf
Blood Roses is the second book in the Blackthorn Series. This is the story of Leila and Caleb.

Leila is determined to deny what she is. Caleb is working to control the darkness he has within himself. The two of them are natural enemies, with an undeniable attraction that makes matters complicated. These two are a total train wreck that I enjoyed thoroughly.

Pryor has done it again with this follow up to Blood Shadows. Though there is plenty of excitement, the emotional upheaval these characters constantly face is what makes this such an interesting read. I am extremely impressed with Pryor's use of imagery especially when she immerses the reader into the area of Blackthorn itself. I also like the way she leads the reader into a dark place, but also gives us love and passion. The lines of good and bad, right and wrong are blurred. I had moments of absolutely wanting to choke a character and then the next moment I had the "AHA!" moment as I realized the why of how they were. I felt as much a part of the emotional rollercoaster as the characters themselves. Needless to say, I devoured the book in a single sitting!

After reading the first two books of the Blackthorn series I am definitely on the Lindsay Pryor fan bandwagon! I can't wait to see what happens in the third book that will be titled Blood Torn.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Gritty, Sexy and Intense! 12. Juli 2013
Von Janice (Rabidreading) - Veröffentlicht auf
Blackthorn is not a nice place. Just ask Leila, the leading lady of Blood Roses.

From the moment Leila stepped onto the page, I felt for her. Raised her whole life in the safety and security of Summerton, she has never set foot on the vampire-infested streets of Blackthorn, nor does she want to. But when she receives a frantic call from her younger sister Alisha, begging for help, Leila has no choice but to enter the proverbial lion's den.

Getting in is the easy part. It's getting out that will be tricky, because a certain uber-sexy and dangerous vamp has figured out Leila's most closely guarded secret, and he's not about to let her go.

Caleb has hunted serryns for years. He hates them with the fire of a thousand suns, and having one fall into his lap resurrects all the darkness inside of him. Darkness that is aimed entirely at poor Leila.

Leila is put through the wringer in this book, and yet somehow, she prevails. She stood up to Caleb, poked holes in his armor, and defied all his negative expectations. And she did it in a way that not only won him over (reluctantly), but me as well (wholeheartedly). The strength of character she displayed impressed the hell out of me, and I was cheering her on the whole way.

Caleb, for his part, is one very bad boy. In any other book, he'd be slated as the villain and I'd be booing and hissing him off the page. He's cold, unforgiving, and more than a little cruel. Yet he's also a devoted brother, an astute businessman, and loyal to his people. I would never call him good, but he isn't outright evil either, and honestly, I liked him. A LOT. He's exactly the kind of complex character I love to sink my teeth into.

Supporting characters Alisha and Jake (Caleb's brother) deserve a special mention. Jake in particular really surprised me. He comes off at first as a useless playboy, but he sure proved me wrong! I'm pleased as punch he and Alisha both had scenes written from their POV. The story wouldn't have worked nearly as well without them and I hope we see more of them both in the future.

As in book one, the story unfolds over a short period of time, and once again, I did not feel gypped in any way. BLOOD ROSES is a fully-developed, thoroughly engrossing story filled with heavy emotional hits and swoonworthy moments. In or out of the bedroom, whether they are viciously fighting or tearing each other's clothes off, Caleb and Leila burn up the pages together. Every moment between them seethes with emotion and intensity. It's potent stuff, and the more I read, the more hooked I became. In fact, when the book ended, it took all of, oh, five minutes for the withdrawal to set in. I wanted MORE.

That's right. I am officially addicted to this series. Why, you ask? Because Lindsay Pryor is my kind of fearless author. She isn't afraid to "go there", to create characters and situations that challenge me as a reader. She doesn't wrap anything in a pretty bow for me, and after two books, she has yet to hand me a single quick fix or easy answer. Black and white? Forget about it! You will find nothing that simple in the the world of Blackthorn. Everywhere you look, there are blurred lines and shades of gray. There are no clear-cut Happy Ever Afters, either. I don't think there can be in this world. Not yet. I could be wrong, but my gut tells me there is a lot of story yet to be told, and everything we're reading now is merely the prelude. All these different stories are going to intersect at some point (I hope), and I can't wait to see what happens when they do.

BLOOD ROSES isn't a wild, action-packed ride through the paranormal world. If that's what you are in the mood for, I would recommend you look elsewhere, because you'll only be disappointed. However, if you're hunting for a book that isn't afraid to get its hands dirty and show you a darker side of life - a book with characters who will grab you by the throat and refuse to let go - then you should definitely check out the Blackthorn series.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Caleb is delightfully ruthless! 22. April 2013
Von DaVinciKittie - Veröffentlicht auf
I really enjoyed the first foray into Blackthorn with Blood Shadows (Blackthorn) and Blood Roses did not disappoint! Caleb is every bit as ruthless, unpredictable, alpha, and manipulative as I'd hoped and Leila had a fighting spirit that made her an excellent match for him. One of my favorite things about Ms. Pryor's writing is how she sets the scene so vividly and masterfully so you feel you're there in the moment without being distracted by lengthy, unnecessary descriptions.

I'd have liked to see a little more of Blackthorn, however, and the conclusion between Leila and Caleb felt a little unfinished, but this storyline is absolutely building up to something monumental and it'll be a ride to get there! If you haven't read Blood Shadows, start there or you won't understand some of the world references and the full depravity of Blackthorn.

Just finished Blood Roses. What an awesome read. Hot. Unexpected. A+ for Bad Boy Sexy. The mystery is as intriguing as is the dark, forbidden world of Blackthorn. But it's not just about the romance, it's about tyranny. You can feel for their plights, understand their discouragement and recognize the injustices. It's easy to understand what made these bad boys, it's impossible not to root for them to be saved.

2.0 von 5 Sternen Blood roses review 17. Oktober 2013

Blood Roses is the second book to the Blackthorn series by author Lindsay J. Pryor. I did NOT like this book as much as the first one. I hated the hero so much in this book I had to put the book down several times to take a break. I would pick it back up in hopes that he would somehow redeem himself. Nope didn't happen, I still hated him at the end.

Story - Leila (the heroine of the book) is a Serryn and a witch, poison blood runs through her veins and is deadly to any vampire that bites her. She hates vampires due to a horrific event in her early life, were she sees a vampire killing her mother, she runs, the vamp chases her, bites her and is slowly killed by her blood. She keeps this secret due to her grandfathers urging. Present day: she gets a call from her sister, Alisha, saying she needs Leilas help to bring a dead vampire (since Leila is a witch with a magic book grandpa left) back to life or Alisha dies. Being the big sister that she is she rushes over to Blackthorne (where the vamps live) to get her sister out of trouble. Biggest mistake of her life!

She is attracted to Caleb (the hero of the story) even though he is a vampire. Caleb is attracted to her (so he says) even though he didn't trust her throughout the whole damn book. And then when he confirms he knows that Leila is a serryn, it just goes all to hell from there. Caleb used to hunt down and kill serryns for a living because one killed his brother Seth. So he has a deep hatred for them. Caleb traps her there and will not let her leave. It was full of mistrust, arguing, sex tests, him being cruel to her.

Leila was so stupid, its like she had no backbone what so ever. She, at times, would stand up for herself, only to go right back to where he didn't trust her again. Why oh why do there have to be so many stupid female leads. I mean it was getting old. I was hoping the brother (Jake whom she saved from death) would get involved and help her escape. "Run Leila, Run!" he would of said if he had the balls! But Nope. (I mean Jake did try to make Caleb see what he was doing wrong but never took any steps to take action) Caleb throughout the book threatens to kill Leila (and came close to killing her) and Leilas sisters. And then at the end there was no redemption, it really felt like a cliffhanger. He didn't feel sorry for what he put her through, hell i still think he will kill her. It did NOT feel like a HEA at all. Poor stupid Leila :(

The first book like I said was good, Kane redeemed himself, you could feel he loved the heroine in that book. I want to see them again. But Caleb I could care less about and hope he is not in any of the other books.

That being said, Jask is the next hero up in the story line. He was intriguing in the first book when we met him. And the heroine of the book looks to be feisty! Oh please let this heroine have backbone!
