Kurzbeschreibung

A Great Collection Of Puzzles For Your Mind & Brain!

This is a simple and straight-forward book. It is a collection of over 550 small word-based linguistic puzzles that are meant to challenge and entertain you. They range in difficulty and style, they are fun to share, and they are easy to understand. They share with riddles that great "aha!" moment when you solve them, but unlike many riddle books these are very bite-sized and linguistic-based. Fun to share with others and perhaps different than what you're used to.

This book has eleven different types of puzzles in it. Please continue reading to see the puzzle types along with an example. If you find them interesting, there are hundreds and hundreds more in the book!

Co-Compounding
The clues describe pairs of compound words that share a component. Determine the single word that can be combined with each of the two given words to form the compound word set.

Example: year _____ end
Answer: Book > yearbook / bookend.

Uniquely Anagrammatical
Each of the words given has only one anagram. What is it?

MAN- Starters
Each clue refers to a word that begins with the letters “man” - determine the correct words.

Example: Something required by rule.
Answer: Mandatory.

Hooked on Homophonics
The clues describe two-word answers that are homophones of one another.

Example: Was it the wicked lady of the east or west?
Answer: Which witch?

Rhyme The Blanks
Each puzzle is a series of clues with a blank space. Determine the correct word to fill each blank. They all rhyme.

Example:
Bring it to a _____.
Check your _____.
Aluminum _____.
Answer: Boil, oil, foil.

Single Letter Switches
The clues describe two-word answers where each word differs by only one switched letter.

Example: Two charted items at the pediatricians.
Answer: Height, weight.

CON- Starters
Each clue refers to a word that begins with the letters “con” - determine the correct words.

Example: A crowding of traffic.
Answer: Congestion.

Anagram Answers
The clues describe two-word answers where each word is an anagram of the other.

Example: To start existing.
Answer: Begin being.

Contradictionaries
The clues describe one-word answers that satisfy seemingly contradictory definitions and usages.

Example: To put back where it was, or to switch out with something else.
Answer: Replace.

-END Enders
Each clue refers to a word that ends with the letters “end” - determine the correct words.

Example: To understand.
Answer: Comprehend.

Lowest Common Denominators
The solutions to the three-word clues are one-word answers that are associated with each individual word from the clues to form either compound words or common two-word combinations.

Example: Test - Final - Film
Answer: Scores > Test scores, Final scores, Film scores.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Great Fun For The Money 22. August 2014
Von Ctwink - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
** NOTE: I received a free copy of this ebook in exchange for an honest review. **

I usually read a products other reviews to get a sense of what I'm in store for prior to accepting to review something - especially from an independent supplier - and I hate those people who reply to other reviewers in their own reviews saying "These guys have no idea what they are talking about", but I can't help myself this time...

I just don't understand the 1- and 2-star reviewers here. Not only does this book contain over 500 riddles and wordplay puzzles in 11 different categories, but I don't understand the complaints about it being boring or too easy. In fact my children (13, 9 & 6) thought the book was not only fun, but not easy at all and had alot of variety. They especially enjoyed the "CON-/MAN- Starters" and "-END Enders" puzzles. For riddle pros, the section on Anagrams and the Bonus Puzzles will be challenging. I love these types of games and I was certainly not able to rip through page after page of riddles without thinking... Each riddle has a link below it to "solution" which takes you to the answer section in the back of the book. Then there is a similar link below the answer to "go back" to original page. One thing to note is that the author has setup the pages to be read in portrait mode - making one answer show up per page. But if the book is viewed in landscape mode, you will see two answers per page which will ruin every other riddle for you unless you are really careful (or read two riddles at a time).

Overall I thought that this book was a bargain for $1 - especially considering how much paperback versions of these types of books cost (a quick Amazon search showed the cheapest one at $4.99 - and it had a quarter of the content of Mr. Guido's book). I've reviewed a number of ebooks and I wouldn't pay "anything" for most of them - I won't name names, but I've gotten $0.99 ebooks that were only 20 pages - double spaced - and the content was clearly copied verbatim off other web pages. In my opinion, almost anyone will see hours of enjoyment from this book.

For those who enjoy this type of riddle wordplay, I would suggest you checkout some of Mr. Guido's other books such as What Am I? - A Collection Of Traditional Word Riddles (Vol 1), Little Word Puzzles To Entertain & Train Your Brain! - Single Letter Switches, or How To Get Better At Boggle - A Strategy Guide.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A nice variety of puzzles for someone in love with words 13. Juli 2014
Von Doug Erlandson - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
As a writer and one-time philosophy professor I work with words for a living. I pride myself on my vocabulary and ability to pun and in other ways manipulate the English language. Naturally I was quite excited to receive as a gift from the author Zack Guido's "Big Book of LIttle Word Puzzles" for the purpose of giving an unbiased review.

Not counting a set of bonus puzzles, Guido's book contains eleven different types of word puzzles. Some of the puzzles are: Uniquely Anagrammatical (words that have just one anagram––what is it?), Man-starters (clues given for words that begin with "Man"), Con-starters (much like "Man-starters," except that the words all begin with "con"), Contradictionaries (single words that have seemingly contradictory definitions, End-enders (clues to words that end with "end"), and so forth.

Some of the answers are rather easy to guess; others take a lot of thought. Puzzle solvers of all levels of ability will find this book challenging and fascinating. This would be a great book to take on an automobile trip. There are enough entries to keep a family entertained for hours on end.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A fun game 21. Oktober 2014
Von Israel Drazin - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

This is a fun book with eleven different kinds of word puzzles - over 500 in all. The puzzles are entertaining and challenging. Some are easy and some hard. The book is free on amazon and the free book is easy to maneuver from puzzle to answer and back. The instructions are clear and contain examples. The author also gives gamesters clues.
5.0 von 5 Sternen English Teachers and Parents Alert! 17. Juli 2014
Von Alice4447 - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
This book is not only for the word maven looking for a brain-boost, nor is it only good for solving a few problems before going to bed each night. It is a treasure trove of challenging word problems which a teacher can use to start the class each day on a positive note, by challenging his students to solve a few as a bell ringer before class gets going. It really will get them into the mood to learn, and there are problems for folks at every level of expertise. I taught English for 37 years, and once I started using books like these at the beginning of class, the kids became keener, sharper, and more ready to learn. Logic problems generate discussions.
These word problems will also teach them new words in a fun way. Many of these are types of word problems I have never seen, even though my students and I ate up a large number of logic books with gusto through the years. Warning: If you buy this book, do not hoard it under the bed. Share some of your favorite problems with friends, family, and children. Then everybody has fun!
5.0 von 5 Sternen FUN to do around the table! 28. September 2014
Von Richard and Liz - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
If you are looking for some new puzzles or just something quick to pick up and stimulate your brain then this is for YOU!

There is a link to the answer under each question so only that answer is revealed which is really nice. No more of your eyes "cheating" by seeing the next answer! There are even some bonus puzzles at the end!

The puzzles may be little but that does not mean that they are all easy. Get the whole family involved and have some fun!
