When James learns Molly's secret, his own reputation is undermined. But when Molly Whitcomb's reinvented life begins to unravel, it threatens his job, the stability of Timber Ridge, and what he always knew to be true about himself.

Beyond This Moment (Timber Ridge Reflections, Book 2)
Tamera Alexander has done it again. Each of her books just get better and better. If you like a good historical fiction with a flavor of the west then you will enjoy this novel.Interesting likable characters, good setting, and engrossing story is what you will find in this novel. Would Molly find a way out of her dilemma? Will James McPherson be able to have the love of his life? I had other things to do the evening I started this book, but they didn't get done as I had to read to the end to find out. So if you like an inspirational story with a satisfying ending, purchase BEYOND THIS MOMENT by Tamera Alexander.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Another super book by Tamera 22. August 2009
Von Irene B. Brand - Veröffentlicht auf
Molly Whitcomb journeys from Athens, Georgia to Timber Ridge, Colorado Territory, 1876, to accept a teaching position in an elementary school. Molly brings her expertise as a professional teacher and her love of books to share with more than fifty students. She also brings some carefully-guarded secrets, which she hopes to conceal from the local residents until she establishes her attributes and skill as a professional teacher.
Immediately, upon her arrival in Colorado, Molly meets James McPherson, local guardian of law and order. Romantic sparks fly as soon as James and Molly meet, and she soon realizes that he's a man of high principles, who will no doubt condemn incidents in her past. However, the sheriff also harbors a family secret, which has kept him from marrying. It's inevitable that Molly and James will fall in love but, when the reader becomes aware of the emotional baggage they carry, it's impossible to believe that their love will ever result in a happy ending.
In BEYOND THIS MOMENT, Ms. Alexander paints a true and marvelous portrait of the harsh realities of the Colorado frontier. Her novel will make you cry and laugh as you watch the story unfold, for strong emotions hold the reader's attention from the very first page. This is undoubtedly one of Ms. ALexander's best-written and memorable books.

3.0 von 5 Sternen a sweeping romantic follow up to From A Distance 16. April 2009
Von rachel - Veröffentlicht auf
I rather enjoy following Tamera Alexander to the frontier land of Colorado in the years following the Gold Rush.

Doctor Molly Whitcomb has a dark secret which forces her to flee her cozy position at an elite college and take up residence in a rough and tumble Colorado town.

Here, she experiences first hand the prejudice toward a burgeoning Italian population, the seemingly primitive and sometimes conservative ways of the folk up in the mountains and a blossoming attraction to the swift and protective sheriff, James McPherson.

This is an atmospheric and epic romance which I wouldn't mind watching stretch afore me in film form. Perhaps the next project from the powers that brought us the Love Comes Softly series?

Women will sigh at James: he is quite the perfect and stalwart suitor. Moreover, they will respect Molly. No blushing maiden she, Molly is quick-witted and strong. Not ANY woman of her time and circumstance could secure a doctorate in Romantic Languages.

For a tough as bricks yet touchingly vulnerable heroine and a class-act hero in a stetson, I give this read a solid A.

Quite a lot of fun! ----and Alexander has moments of great prose!

I look forward to the next Timber Ridge Reflections novel.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A powerful story of second chances and new beginnings... 3. Februar 2011
Von Ruth Anderson - Veröffentlicht auf
Dr. Molly Whitcomb has achieved educational and professional success far beyond what most women could even fathom in 1876. But one mistaken night of passion has cost her dearly, ripping from her hands the professional future she fought so hard to achieve and the comforts of the only world she's ever known. With her reputation hanging by a thread she seizes the only option offered to her - a teaching position in remote Timber Ridge in the Colorado Territory. Determined to mask her shame behind the veil of widowhood, Molly never imagines the far-reaching ramifications of her desperate rash act, particularly where the handsome sheriff, James McPherson, is concerned. James is a gentleman in every sense of the word, a man of principle and honor the likes of which Molly had never dreamed of meeting in the wild territory. As Molly begins to establish a home in Timber Ridge, her new life, built on a foundation of deception, threatens to destroy everything she's begun to hold dear. When the truth is revealed, can love withstand the self-righteous recrimination of society and the deep-set wounds found within two hearts desperate for acceptance and a fresh start?

Tamera Alexander has a gift for crafting characters so real, so vibrant, that they spring to life from the page so alive that you cannot help but rejoice with them in their victories and weep with them over their sorrows. Though I haven't walked Molly's specific road, her struggle with shame over past choices and the premium she places on maintaining her reputation at all costs are all too real and painfully relatable. It's all too easy to rationalize our way out of taking responsibility for our actions, of dealing with consequences immediately instead of putting off a painful, but ultimately necessary task. With Molly's journey, Alexander beautifully illustrates the timeless axiom that the light of truth does indeed set one free, and that God's gift of second, third, fourth chances and more - His grace - is there for any child who runs to His arms, no matter how far or hard the fall. Similar to Elizabeth, the heroine of the previous novel in this series, I appreciated how Alexander once again crafts a female lead that is strong, independent, and forward-thinking, but wholly of the time period in which she lives. Through Molly's refined southern eyes, Alexander fully immerses the reader in a community on the brink of great social change, a place struggling to reconcile its roots as a rugged frontier town with the push and pull of social and economic expansion. Alexander's secondary characters are as fully realized as her leads, and make the world of Timber Ridge a compelling and fascinating place in which to lose oneself.

James McPherson is the type of hero that embodies everything I love about cowboys and the legends of the West. Ruggedly handsome and unfailingly kind, he possesses a code of honor so ingrained in his very being that it informs every decision, every choice he makes. Life was black and white until Molly entered his life, and his attraction to the pretty schoolteacher could not override the nagging sense that all was not as it seemed in her life. When Molly's secrets collide with his strict code of honor and threaten to unmask his own secret shame, James faces a choice - to exercise grace and faith or run from a love he'd never dared dream of experiencing. James and Molly's relationship embodies everything I've come to love about Alexander's writing. She can craft a romance that can take your breath away, characters so real and flawed you can't help but see yourself in their lives, and a redemptive thread that unfolds so beautifully, and with such power, that the grace of it will bring tears to your eyes. Through James and Molly's story, you'll witness a powerful illustration of God's never-failing, awe-inspiring ability to take the messes humans can make of their lives and transform them into something beautiful, if only one surrenders to the fall.

4.0 von 5 Sternen A Gentle Read of Deep Emotion 11. November 2010
Von J. L. McInnis - Veröffentlicht auf
This is the beautiful story of doctor of romantic languages, Molly Whitcomb, who arrives in Timber Ridge, Colorado ready to begin a new life as the teacher of the new schoolhouse. However, a last minute decision to hide her pregnancy and claim widowhood slowly begins to creep up and unravel all the progress she makes befriending the townsfolk. And when a fragile love interest begins to bloom between her and the handsome, honor-bound Sheriff James McPherson, Molly must face the inevitable consequences of her actions and somehow weather the judgmental tongues of a town who has forgotten the depth of God's grace.

To my pleasure, the characters become alive on the page and I quickly grow to care for each one of their public (and private) trials. I often found myself shifting through an emotional roller-coaster; rejoicing in a wakening love one moment and angry at the characters the next.

I did enjoy reading Tamera Alexander's delightful prose. However, I must admit that there were times I thought the author fell a little too in love with her writing and I ended up leaving the story to ponder her word-choice.

And while I applauded Molly and how she handled her dilemma, I often felt that James was just a little too good-natured. However, through the second half of the book, Author Alexander slowly began peeling away his layers; revealing a good but troubled soul. Therefore, his all-too-perfect nature began to appear more redeemable in my eyes. To the point, admittedly, toward the end when I deeply wanted to throttle him.

My chief complaint is that the plot is often slow to move along. There is much introspection and a few scenes that seemed to drag. However, I found a short break was all the cure I needed to dive back into the story.

I must also say that book's conclusion broke my heart, but Alexander kindly stitched it back together again.
