Joel Makower author of Beyond the Bottom Line: Putting Social Responsibility to Work for Your Business and the World Ben and Jerry have dished up a healthy scoop of wisdom about the power of business to make change -- and make money. Double-Dip clearly and passionately shows that values-driven business is a powerful idea and not merely a flavor of the month.

Business Times A very different kind of business book, Ben & Jerry's Double-Dip shows how a company can win the respect of its community, loyalty of its customers, and healthy profits, too, by addressing social concerns as well as the bottom line.

Tom Chappell President and co-founder of Tom's of Maine Ben & Jerry have achieved what we all wish were possible in business -- one set of values, for home and at work. Hurray for them!

Anita Roddick founder of The Body Shop I love Ben & Jerry because they are an inspiration to any business that recognizes a worldwide responsibility. They understand that decisions affect not just economics but people, too.

Rosabeth Moss Kanter author of World Class: Thriving Locally in the Global Economy Double-Dip serves up a charming and wise insider account of how the ice cream kings built a premium brand and a role model, values-driven company. Leaders in businesses of all sizes will find abundant inspiration and dozens of practical suggestions for creating wealth and well-being.

Commercial success need not come at the cost of human value. Just ask Ben and Jerry, whose first ice cream shop in an abandoned Vermont gas station grew into a $160 million business. In this book they explain what they call "value-led business".

4.0 von 5 Sternen A great insight into a different business approach 14. Januar 2006
Ben Cohen & Jerry Greenfield introduce their concept of a "values-led business" in a well-balanced combination of story-telling and business philosophy outline. On the one hand, concise presentations explain the underlying business principles based on ethics, corporate responsibility, and a strong commitment to community, as well as how these principles have been put into practice. On the other hand, this book reveals biographical elements of the two entrepreneurs sharing very personal thoughts and motivations.
The reader gains wonderful insight into the authors' mindset, and the story unfolds following the entrepreneurs' major steps from the naive opening of a hardly viable ice cream parlor at an old Vermont gas station to the establishing of franchises of a multi-million dollar business model abroad. It is great to grow with the authors and their icecream venture along the read, as one follows them how they learn from early mistakes, and how they find sometimes unconventional solutions to the arising challenges.
This book can be used as a handbook and reference manual for like-minded business people with a focus on values and corporate responsibility, but just as well it can be enjoyed as an entertaining read about two impressive characters coined by the society of the United States still offering astonishing opportunities. Due to this dual function, neither area is fully covered by this book, and, as a result of the implicit compromise of losing some aspects of interest in both fields, my rating loses one star of the possible five.
Yet, I would like to point out that it is a great read thanks to its accessible style avoiding blown-up business jargon or insignificant personal matters.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Great inspiration seeking book 19. Oktober 2004
Von Tan Suan Loke - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
This is one of few books that I read cover to cover, and going to read it again in the next few months to remind myself and my business that there is more than just making money in life - its about making the world a better place to live for.

Although it doesn't contain any recipe for ice-creams (wasn't looking for one), it does contain the recipe for a successful business model built on a socially responsible organization that grew into a giant franchise all over the world - from a gas station and a mere 4 grands. GREAT role model for those going into business as well as those already in business.

Great resource annex at the back, from suppliers to other valued-led business. I live in Singapore, but if I have the chance, I will want to visit Vermont when my business takes off.

Since this book was a pre-Unilever take-over publication, it did not mention about the business model changes after that.

The world is getting messy - war, poverty, madness, scandals and terror, this book injects humanity into us, it gives me comfort when I go to sleep at night knowing that there are still hope and greatness in most of us. I give it 5 stars.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Ben & Jerry's Double Dip 30. November 2009

I teach leadership in nonprofits to ambitious and very talented college students. Increasingly students are interested in nonprofit-business partnerships. Ben and Jerry's led the socially responsible business movement and this book is both a guide to this kind of business initiative and entertaining story telling. I recommend it for real people who may be interested in beginning their own business as well as those who appreciate values led initiatives.
