Produktbeschreibungen

From Booklist

Having completed the popular multivolume fantasies, The Belgariad and The Malloreon, Eddings and his wife, now acknowledged as a longtime collaborator, focus on the eons-long struggle of gods and humans that led to the epic events in those two series. Here, they tell that story from the viewpoint of the sorcerer Belgarath, who became a disciple of the god Aldur when the gods still walked the world and who was a major participant throughout the 7,000-year war. After the dark god Torak cracks the world by trying to use the powerful Orb, which he has stolen from Aldur, Aldur takes on the responsibility of preparing for the day when good and evil will meet in the final battle that decides the fate of the world. Belgarath and his fellow disciples become involved in deciphering the oblique prophecies and making sure that events that are supposed to happen indeed do. The Eddingses temper larger-than-life violence and intrigue with a healthy dose of wit, particularly in the characterizations of the often testy Belgarath and his equally sharp-tongued daughter, Polgara. This rousing precursor to two five-book sagas is probably best read after them because of Belgarath's digressions into his own present, but make no mistake--the sagas' many fans will definitely relish it. From Library Journal

While relating his event-filled life, the immortal sorcerer Belgarath weaves a compelling tale of two opposing Necessities that spans 7000 years and bears witness to the rise and fall of human hopes and destinies. The latest effort by the authors of The Belgariad (Ballantine, 1986) provides a new spin on material familiar to series followers. It illuminates the mysterious past of a world cracked apart in its infancy by the jealousy of its gods. The sometimes humorous, sometimes sharply rueful voice of the narrator provides a welcome anchor in this lavishly portrayed journey through time. A welcome addition to most fantasy collections, this title can be enjoyed apart from its predecessors.

What happened before 8. Juni 2002
Von Ein Kunde
Format:Taschenbuch
If you like well written classic Fantasy you really can't go wrong with Eddings. In this volume one gets to know how Belgarath became the "ancient and wise sorcerer" we know from the Belgariad. Considering the fact that the story has to cover roughly eight thousand years it's suprisingly entertaining. Sure, there isn't the flowing plot of the earlier/later novels. Anyway, I loved the book and have read it four or five times already

An excellent book. 31. März 2000
Von Ein Kunde
Format:Taschenbuch
This is probably one of the best books I've read. Surpassed maybe by Polgara the Sorceress. This book introduced me to the world invented by David and Leigh Eddings, and I've read every other book by them since. Belgarath is so incredibly well written that at times I found myself cracking up, usually while at school. Other times I wanted to cry, the characters are described so well that I find myself feeling what they feel, and hoping what they hope. Even though the paperback version has around 800 pages, I can read it in a weekend if I really get into it.

The perfect ending! 6. Juni 1998
Von Ein Kunde
Format:Taschenbuch
I simply can NOT see how anyone can just pass judgement on someone else's book. These people who complain that it "isn't good enough for them" or that David & Leigh "repeat too much" have obviously skimmed through the book. I am only 12 and I can see that the Eddings couple writes very deep. Unless you pore through it, their books don't seem that interesting. But when you look deep inside them, it's like a whole new world is opened up. Belgarath the Sorcerer explains so much about the Belgariad and the Malloreon that we wanted to know. I've read the last two books of the Belgariad, the 2nd and 3rd books of the Malloreon, Belgarath, Polgara, and own the complete Elenium and Tamuli and I have NEVER had reason to complain about a single one of them! Though they use what SEEMS to be the same characters, every one of the people David and Leigh create are different. The Eddings couple makes people that seem so real, it's as if they could be in the same room with you, talking to you, and you wouldn't be able to realize that they were characters from a book. Those who say that there are no racial differences obviously do not realize the fact that the Alorns and Elenes are Caucasians and that the Angaraks, Melcenes, Styrics, and Tamuls are Orientals, and those are only a few of the answers I have to the many complaints that I have read. You may think that I am only a silly little girl, but you do not realize that sometimes we children can be as (or more) perceptive than you adults. Have you all forgotten the days of your own youth? Enough, I'm beginning to sound like I'm preaching, but sometimes I just can't help it when people act like this. Let me just say, keep going, David and Leigh, and know that however many peole will whine and complain, there will always be some that help and support, and they're the ones that really matter, aren't they?
