Kurzbeschreibung

Game apps on iPhone and now iPad remain one of the most popular type of apps in the Apple iTunes App Store.  Does Angry Birds ring a bell?  What you were once able to do just for the iPhone (and iPod touch) is now possible for the popular iPad, using the new iOS 5 SDK.

Beginning iOS 5 Games Development provides a clear path for you to create games using the iOS 5 SDK platform for the iPad, iPhone, and iPad touch. You'll learn how to use classes to create game apps, including graphics, and animations. The latest version of Xcode will be used in parts of the book to guide you along the way of building your apps.

Did anyone bother to edit this book? 6. Januar 2012

This book is rife with errors and omission. Some of the concepts expressed are decent, but I wouldn't have been able to work my way through the book without a solid understanding of iOS/ Xcode fundamentals. There are typos galore, and many of the sample code segments are incomplete. If you just follow the code the way it's presented in this book, you'll never end up with a single piece of functioning code. Overall, it comes across as a frantic, hurried rush to meet a publication deadline rather than a thoughtful approach to iOS game development.

This book is not good for beginners 14. Dezember 2011
Von zoneman - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch|Von Amazon bestätigter Kauf
The main problem is the book is poorly written, has missing instructions, and confusing steps process. If you are a beginner, it will be close to impossible the complete the 2nd chapter. And, since the 3rd chapter hinges on what you would have learned from the 2nd chapter, you will probably not be able to complete chapter 3. Those chapters attempt to teach how to build a basic game navigation architecture. The concepts are easy to understand, and are essential to for iOS games. But the instructions they provided are very poorly organized, and incomplete. Even assuming one should have some knowledge of programming in objective-c, the book has to many errors. You will be trying to find work arounds to get the program to work.

I'm still going to try and glean what I can from the lessons. I haven't started chapter 5, maybe it get's better. I'll give 2 stars because I think I can still get something from the book.

The word beginner implies you don't need any previous knowledge of the material to complete the course, because it will be all explained to you. This book is not providing that.

Preliminary Review 8. Dezember 2011
Von golightly - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

I'm about halfway through this book and have found it to be worthwhile. I found it necessary to give a preliminary review for the following reasons:

1. The graphics/tables in the Kindle version are B/W and are of poor quality. It does not necessarily detract from the points being made, but it is sloppy - how much more time/effort would it have taken to produce a quality product?

2. "..for Beginners" is misleading. In my view, one must be fairly knowledgeable in Obj-C and iOS programming as very little background is introduced - it begins straightaway with iOS graphics and gesture recognizers.
