This 64 page workbook is great for beginner readers and progresses in difficulty as the child works through it.
The first lesson covers short vowel sounds, and has the child writing in the missing vowel to words such as ten, doll, and nest. There's a long vowel review, beginning sounds, ending sounds, beginning AND ending sounds, etc. Here are some of the exercises in this book:
*Color and Shape Words
*Alphabetical Order
*Opposites
*Action Words
*Inference
*Synonyms
*Decoding/Rhyming
*Main Idea/Details
*Interogative Words
*Analogies
and much more.
Beginning Reading 1-2 is a colorful and sturdy paperback workbbook that invites creative thinking, deductive reasoning, and following directions. The pages can also be torn out along the peforated lines, if you choose. While most are writing exercises in this book, there are also coloring exercises. For example, one exercise features a grid of letters and directions such as "Color the Z boxes red" and "Color the K boxes green". After the child colors all the appropriate boxes, the secret message is "How many months are in a year?" So the child not only gets an exercise in reading and following directions, he/she gets to color and find out how many months are in a year! (There are 12 colorful calendars featured on the page).

these book has a lot of different learning activies in it. it has words like pig anf dig and the child has to figure out whitch letter is missing. it has rhyming pictures where they have to pick the two pictures that match. It has begining letters that are missing and they have to pick the letter that goes with that word. this activity book is very helpful. i wanted to get this at walmart but they were sold out so i ordered from amazon. if i were you i would see if walmart had it before i payed for shipping. This is a great book for children learning how to read.

I ordered this book for my 6 year old daughter who is in 1st grade and I'm glad I did!!! She's already reading at an exceptional rate, but she is always looking to do more. I decided to order this book because it advances from the 1st grade to the 2nd grade, so she'll definitely be prepared for 2nd grade next year. The activities in the book are a bit challenging and makes her really think and I love that. The work is a bit harder than her current homework, but she loves the challenge. I recommend this book to all 1st graders!!!
