Content-wise quite similar to "7 Steps to Raising a Bilingual Child" (the first book I read about this topic), but more modern, less theoretic, more personal experience and from a European point of view.

This is a brilliant book. I already read a lot about raising bi-lingual children and find this is one of the best books I have come across.
The author manages to successfuly combine results from scientific research with practical advice from people living in a bi- or multi-lingual environment.
The section with practical tips on how to encourage children to speak their minority language is invaluable. I can only recommend this book to anyone raising bi-lingual children.

“Be Bilingual” is divided into two parts. The first part outlines the understanding of bilingualism as well as gives advice about setting goals and choosing the most appropriate strategy for your family. The second part is more practical and gives a variety of tips for reinforcing minority language learning, as well as discusses potential problems and ways of overcoming them.
Overall, this book is intelligent and research-based, yet also very approachable and adaptable to real-life situations.

I recently gave birth to my son, who will be raised in a German/Japanese/English speaking environment, and I was looking for some general information about how to/what it's like to raise a multilingual child. This e-book provided me with brilliant insights and ideas which I can definitely utilise as a base for my future planning/tactics. Some references for learning resources are quite valuable too - it saves time Googling what's useful or not! It is also written in a friendly, easy-to-read language, which I found very encouraging to read on - even with an extremely limited spare time while taking care of a baby! I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in raising a bilingual/multilingual child.

As an English-speaking mother-to-be with a German-speaking husband living in Germany, I would say I discovered the right book at the right time. We have been talking about our plan to make bilingualism an important aspect of our family life for a long time, and I feel like Bourgogne's book has given me the extra boost of confidence and eagerness I needed right before our twins arrive. Simply yet well-written, her book is a prime combination of scientific and practical information for new-timers and people looking for guidance in what can seem to be the vast ocean of bilingual family life. A great piece of writing I would recommend to anyone seriously considering embarking on a bilingualism journey.

This book combines informative theoretical knowledge about bilingualism with practical tips on how to include bilingualism in the everyday life of one's family.
There is information for nearly every target group (e.g. bilingual families, multilingual families, natives and non-natives) and reading the book motivates and encourages to strive for multilingual education within one's family despite criticism or discouragement from one's environment.
Besides, it is also quite good written with real life stories throughout the book. I really enjoyed it a lot.

Like the title says, practical ideas for bilingual / multilingual families. Professionally written with examples from "the wise" but keeping it really easy to read.
First time to have a Kindle edition, it was easy to download the apps to iphone AND ipad and now I can read the book on both devices! (they even find the page I was on the other device)
