I own about ten various bass music tab collections. This is my favorite. First it is packed with quality songs that people of all ages like to hear a band play. The tabs are very accurate too. Quality paper, clear crisp printing. The only way to improve this collection would be to spiral bind it. These are some of the keystones that laid the foundation for the awesome Stax/Volt, Atlantic, Motown legacy. "Ain't Too Proud To Beg," "I'll Take You There," "Respect," "I Got You (I Feel Good)," "Midnight Hour," "Knock On Wood," "Mustang Sally," "My Girl," "Soul Man" and "Higher and Higher" are evergreens that working bands around here play at about every gig. In addition to those songs that have been lots of fun for me, here are the rest of songs included in this very useful bass tab book:
Nowhere To Run
Ain't No Mountain High Enough
Mr. Pitiful
I Just Want To Celebrate
I Want You Back
(I'm A) Road Runner
Born Under A Bad Sign
Cool Jerk
Green Onions
I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)
I Heard It Through The Grapevine
I Was Made To Love Her
Shop Around
Stop! In The Name Of Love
This Old Heart Of Mine (Is Weak For You)
Uptight (Everything's Alright)
What's Going On
Hard To Handle
Standing In The Shadows Of Love
Bernadette
Push And Pull
Groove Me
I have these songs on my computer, I patch my pedalboard into the computer through a mixer and an upgraded soundcard. (You could also plug a direct box like a Basspod into your computer.) Then you can play bass along to the original recorded versions very precisely with this book. It is a great way to learn. You can even use your computer's headphones and practice all night without bothering the family or your neighbors.
The music is presented in standard notation for people who read music, and if you don't read music it is also presented in tab. Tab is a very easy way to find the right note and you don't have to read music to play using the tab system. Additionally all the lyrics are included, so the vocalists can finally get the words right. If your band is going to do classic soul music, you might as well do it right and with this book you can be certain that you are getting it right.
I highly recommend this book for any bassist who loves 60's Soul music and wants to get a leg up on playing these songs correctly. This is the most fun I've ever gotten out of the many sheet music collections I've purchased.
