Ein Stadtführer der anderen Art: auf den Spuren von Graffities durch London. Das Buch ist in englischer Sprache geschrieben. Das Buch zeigt ca. 80 Graffities. Jeder "location" ist eine Doppelseite gewidmet: auf der rechten Seite ein großes Bild des Graffiti, links der Text dazu. Der beinhaltet eine Ortsbeschreibung mit GPS - Daten, sowie weitere Informationen zum Bild, z.B. zu Veränderungen an der Wand etc., sowie einen Hinweis, wann das Bild noch zu sehen war.

Banksy Locations and Tours (BLT) is a well written "guidebook" to Banksy's past artwork in London - a must for everyone interested in the subject. Under-titled "An Unofficial History of Graffiti Locations in London" the book is a rich documentary of Banksy's streetart, well illustrated with pictures and filled with informative but at the same time light commentary providing many colourful details and anecdotes on the particular pieces. Written in an involving and direct way, it makes you really feel the flavour of the search for Banksy across the real and living city of London - with the enthusiasm of the author that you can feel from in-between the lines throughout the whole book.
BLT vol. 1 concerns mainly past works of Banksy from the period when the author of the book was organising guided sightseeing tours to graffiti locations in London - hence the title. In this way the book is one of the kind, as it is not an anonymous album with pictures of some inaccessible art from galleries but it has the "journalistic" quality to really make the reader feel close to it all :) - isn't this what all street-art is about?
The book is of small and handy format, with nice and very aesthetic layout, the pictures are taken with due artistic touch and you can even find hand-drawn maps of some parts of London inside showing chosen locations :)
For those who are interested in going out to the streets of London to actually look for Banksy's work, I would recommend Banksy Locations And Tours vol 2, which gives a lot additional information on new pieces that appeared recently (up to second half of 2010) all over the UK, and has not got outdated yet. I tried it myself - it works well, the descriptions are clear and accurate, still very fresh and up-to-date (in Feb 2011), you can get everywhere easily and see it all.
Being an exceptionally shortlived genre of art, graffiti/streetart needs constant documenting, and Martin Bull did it a great favour.

a great book. well worth the cost for banksy fans!!

i bought this book (volume 1) and volume 2 in the same series.
they are both well worth the cost! both books are filled with loads of great photos and info about the banksy works in the uk. volume 2 actually covers areas beyond london with a walking tour of bristol and some pieces in manchester, birmingham and glasgow. (one word of advice, these pieces disappear fast, so don't be too shocked if you go to see a piece and it's gone. this happened to me in glasgow)
the author has done a great job researching the contents of the book. he's laid it out well and made it very easy to follow the directions to find/see the art.
as well, the book covers little bits of trivia about banksy and other cool street artists such as shepard fairey, invader, eine, faile and inkie.
one key point is that volume 2 is a totally new book and actually works as a companion piece to volume 1. so a keen fan is best to buy both as there's no overlap between the two.
