From School Library Journal
Grade 3-6-Bad Dog probably didn't deserve his name. He certainly didn't deserve his fate-trapped on death row, a pooch in peril. In fact, his last few hours were ticking away when a Hollywood agent arrived at the pound and Bad Dog's luck changed. Now he's featured in Cake Fear with action star Anvil Studminder. He's a Hollywood hero, but heroes make enemies in Tinseltown, and his one character flaw (an intense hatred of cats) is going to prove his undoing. This hilarious book by Martin Chatterton tells it all from the dog's point of view. Stephen Greif performs the story with lots of expression, giving Bad Dog a New York accent, and an attitude that will make listeners grin. In fact, all the characters get unique voices. The story is a delightful parody, and celebrity names are tossed about like confetti. Younger listeners might not catch all the references, but they will certainly enjoy the story for what it is-a classic "fame and fortune, followed by folly" fandango. What fun!-Teresa Bateman, Brigadoon Elementary School, Federal Way, WA
