This book is the younger twin of Goodman's other book on this topic for Maine and New Hampshire which I also gladly own.
It does a very good job covering exactly what described by its title, no less, not much more. If you know how to x-c ski, it provides all the information you need to enjoy many backcountry tours in Vermont and New York - from history, clothing and equipment, safety to detailed information of 22 tours (e.g. map, distance, elevation, difficulty level, etc.) The author undoubtedly best suits writing such book because the book is about his passion.
What would add significant value to this book is a large color topographic map similar to AMC's winter tails map.
It also covers one tour in western Massachusetts.
