Tim LaHaye’s most exciting series ever, Babylon Rising, continues with this explosive new installment, including more revelations than ever before. In The Edge of Darkness, LaHaye reveals the meaning behind some of the most carefully guarded Biblical prophecies to expose a conspiracy with terrifying consequences for our modern world.

This time Michael Murphy sets off in search of the Lost Temple of Dagon and the dark secrets of the strange god once worshipped by the ancient Philistines. His quest will lead to a final confrontation with an old enemy and uncover one of the Bible’s most feared warnings–a prophecy of false miracles, false messiahs, and ultimate evil that will be fulfilled in our time...and that not even Murphy can stop once it’s begun.

Once again Tim LaHaye combines his unmatched insight into Biblical prophecy with his unique skills as a master storyteller to deliver a suspense thriller of nonstop action with a thought-provoking message for our troubled times.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Great Book, Just don't start here 13. Dezember 2006
Von Todd Sullivan - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
I have been introduced to the writing of Mr. Lahaye in this Babylon Rising series, and have found that I do enjoy his writing. this is a series about an archeologist named Micheal Murphy and his race against evil forces to find biblical treasures and keep them out of the hands of a mysterious group called the seven who want to launch a plan that will begin the end times.

This book is what I would call a transitional piece in that series and therefore I would highly recommend that the reader read the begiining of the series first, altough books 2 and 3 could read as a stand alone this book requires one to know the characters and the story line. I love this series and after reading this title can't wait for the next book in the series.

5.0 von 5 Sternen riveting thriller 2. September 2006

At Preston College, biblical archeologist Michael Murphy receives another letter from Methuselah that contains a riddle. After figuring out what it means, Michael travels to the underground funhouse in Charlotte where he battles and defeats Ninja killers. He finds another riddle that he deciphers that focuses on Aaron's Rod and the Golden Jar of Manna that was in the Ark of the Covenant before it was lost to the Philistines.

Michael's friend Isis, also an archeologist, researches where those items might be found and determines the most likely spot is the Temple of Dagon in Israel Murphy, who loves finding artifacts that prove the genuineness of the bible sets off to make his latest discovery, but is unaware that an old adversary is following him with the intent of killing him before he interferes with the powerful plans of the Seven, a group who manipulates, from behind the scenes, world events; they want the False prophet brought to the attention of the globe in preparation for the Antichrist to rise tom power. Michael knows of the Seven from Methuselah, but refuses to let them scare him off his quest to prove that everything written in the bible is fact.

Book four of the Babylon Rising series provides deep explanations about the enigmatic Seven and their goals, who Methuselah is, and why he assists Murphy, and how the false prophets are fooling people. Murphy is an Indiana Jones type adventurer with strong beliefs in God that sustain him; he is flawed and prone to doubts when he makes difficult decisions as a modern day Diogenes hunting for the truth. Readers will enjoy his exploits as THE EDGE OF DARKNESS is a riveting thriller.

2.0 von 5 Sternen I really wish we could pick up the pace here... 21. Oktober 2006
Von Thomas Duff - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
Along comes book #4 in the Babylon Rising series by Tim LaHaye and Bob Phillips... The Edge of Darkness. While I'll probably stick out the whole series (however long it becomes), I keep thinking "could we pick up the pace a bit, please?"...

Professor Murphy is once again contacted by his mysterious nemesis Methuselah, and as normal Murphy can't resist solving the riddle and going after the artifact that is being dangled in front of him. And per usual, he nearly gets killed doing so. But through some carelessness on Methuselah's part, Murphy is able to find his real identity and meets him face to face. This meeting sheds a bit of light on why these dangerous expeditions keep happening, as well as who the more dangerous foe is that they both face. It also explains a bit more as to why Talon, the assassin, is so intent on eliminating Murphy from the scene. Mind you, there's not a lot of answers here, but some of the gaps are being filled in. In the personal, romantic subplot of the story, Murphy's relationship with Isis is getting serious, but he's very concerned about their unequal beliefs in God. To complicate that, there's a teacher who works at his school who is quite attractive and shares the same level of faith as Murphy. He's drawn to both women, but knows that there are some biblical guidelines that are pushing him to make a choice he doesn't want to make...

This book is, in my opinion, at best a ho-hum. It doesn't have quite the same level of action and drama as the previous ones, which is probably good. Too many of the encounters were rather over-the-top when it came to believability. But you still have some of that here. The whole relationship angle just sort of hangs there with no resolution by the end of the book (there *will* be a book 5). There's a bit more revealed as to the next steps and overall plans of "The Seven", but even that seemed to be somewhat faded into the background. Overall, it was just hard to get excited about this book...

I'm not quite ready to drop the series, as I actually like the Murphy character. I just wish I didn't feel like the series was being milked to keep people buying the books. If I wasn't picking these up at the library, I'd probably not bother...

Book 4 of the 'Babylon Rising' series requires prior familiarity with the series for smooth entry into this story, with its vivid reading by Paul Michael and its new installment which blends a conspiracy with Biblical interpretation and drama. Here Michael Murphy's quest leads to a revelation that one of the Bible's most dangerous prophecies is about to come true. It's hard to stop listening to this riveting thriller: prior fans won't be disappointed!
