Since BMX emerged in the late 1960s and early 1970s, the sport has evolved into several disciplines and bikes appropriate for each task-vert (ramp riding and dirt jumps), street, and freestyle (or flatland). In many aspects, these three have surpassed the granddaddy of the sport, racing. This installment in the action sports "Trix and Techniques" schools old dogs and newbies alike in both the most basic and the gnarliest tricks and techniques currently on display at skateparks, parking lots, sidewalks, and library steps, across the country. Loosely based on the concept set forth in the FMX Tricks and Techniques titles, the book will begin with short profiles and photos of several of today's top non-race riders. But the bulk of the book will comprise step-by-step photo sequences and detailed captions that illustrate and explain the fundamentals of tricks and moves for everyone from beginners to experienced riders. Additional tech tips will impart mechanical wisdom on the best bike and equipment set-ups for vert, street, and flatland.

basically step by step pictures that are numbered that show you how to do a variety of tricks. they cover all the different styles of bmx so you can find something that interests you.

This is a good starter bmx book on many beginner tricks and has good pictures. but i recommend Dave Mirras Beginner Bmx video as a supplement.
