Kelly Langston knows firsthand the struggles and victories associated with autism--from the time she heard her son's diagnosis and was given little more than a handshake and a brochure to the time she watched her son sing every word in his school musical. Through her experiences--the good and the bad--she discovered a beautiful blessing: God does care about autism. Better yet, he has a unique and marvelous purpose for children with autism--a purpose no less than that of any other child.

More than an “I've been there too” story, Autism's Hidden Blessings highlights God's blueprint for living a life full of joy and potential despite autism. Inside, you'll discover:

-the inheritance of promises God has for you and your exceptional child
-why autism will never limit God from revealing himself to your child
-what to do when you are angry at God and how to move past it
-why love is the greatest therapy of all
-scriptural encouragement to help your family soar above the autism battle

Autism doesn't define your child and doesn't limit his or her potential. If you're weary from the everyday battle against autism, join Kelly Langston on a journey to discover and apply the plan God has for your entire family. It's time to reclaim your joy, laughter, and most of all, hope.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Resources of faith for autism! 5. April 2009
Von Jennifer Stokley - Veröffentlicht auf
"Autism's Hidden Blessings" is an inspirational story of one mother's journey, woven together with scripture and prayer, to help parents of faith (or those looking for faith) draw on God's strengh in raising children with autism. Kelly Langston candidly shares the dark side of this journey, acknowledging her own bewilderment, frustration, and feelings of inadequacy and even depression--as she struggles to understand and help her son. But when she turns this struggle over to God--not just once but in her daily faith journey--she sees the blessings that God gives to her son, her family, her community--and herself, not just as a mother, but as an advocate for autism awareness. There are many books about the medical, scientific, psychological, and social aspects of autism--this book provides a much-needed Bible-based spiritual resource for parents.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Hope 31. März 2009
Von Rachel L. Taylor - Veröffentlicht auf
This book is an excellent resource of information for those parents seeking spiritual direction in their journeys with Autism. It offers scriptural reference to so many questions we may have in times of feeling hopeless or lost. I am not the parent of a special needs child, but I still found this book to be helpful and beautifully written with a wonderful message of hope in every page. Kelly Langston has a wonderful way of painting color in every word she writes, so you not only feel the words, but see the beautiful message being conveyed. An absolute must read for any parent who needs a helpful hand and avenue of help you may not have known you even had available to you!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Life changing!! 14. Mai 2009
Von Debra Gutch - Veröffentlicht auf
What a book! I could not put it down! It had laughter, tears, joy, wisdom and knowledge all wrapped up together in a great read. Kelly tells her story with open honesty and clarity. She does not hide the bad and does not take credit for the good but gives it to God where it should be. Her book is a story, not only of two parents facing a tremendous trial in their lives, but how God lead them to even greater heights in their knowledge of his ways and how he is ALWAYS working in our lives. Your life will be blessed by the truth and hope this book gives to all, not just to parents of autistic children.

2.0 von 5 Sternen Not what I expected 19. Oktober 2012
Von Cecilia Rose - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Taschenbuch|Verifizierter Kauf
This book is not what I expected. I am a believing Christian, and I firmly believe that God has promises for all our children, especially the most disabled. But I think the author needs to put stronger caveats in place that God's promises for all autistic children are not the same. Her son was "recovered" through a DAN protocol; that's great, but it's not going to work for every child, and, I'm sorry to say, more than a few DAN doctors are unscrupulous and prey upon the hopes of desperate parents while making a lot of money off of them.

God's promises for autistic children do not necessarily include "cures." Some children will never speak, toilet independently, live independently, etc. This does not mean that God does not have a "future full of hope" for them, too. The author would have done Christian ASD parents a better service, I think, by noting that God's promises often confound all our expectations. His ways are not our ways. Christians need to stop expecting perfection in this life and seeing imperfection as some sort of sign of non-election. God loves your autistic children. He loves all outcasts. He wants us to radically accept our children for who they are.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A book of hope.... 9. Juni 2009
Von M. Ann Brasher - Veröffentlicht auf
I was set to hate this book because of the title. I was wrong. It is definitely Christian based perspective, but inclusive of bio-med and recovery. It's written by Kelly Langston and she opens all the raw wounds and exposes her feelings but gives hope through Bible scripture and example. She gave many good scriptures to hold on to and used some of the many Bible figures who had a disability that God used. EX: Moses shuddered but lead a nation, David was not even suggested by his father because "he was just a young Sheppard boy" and became a beloved and wise King, etc.
I think it's an excellent book for those seeking their faith after "the big wound" and those who are trying to hang on to the Promises of God's teachings that they have always believed until the A word entered their life.
She touches on (by example of her own experiences) marriage, meltdowns, the stares, the "Mad at God", the what now, how do I go on, what hope is there for me to cling to, etc.
