“It is an excruciatingly beautiful love letter to Audrey Hepburn… I cannot recommend Audrey: The 60s highly enough.” (New York Journal of Books)

Audrey Hepburn, 60s icon.

Audrey Hepburn charmed audiences in the 1950s as a new type of cinema personality—gamine, doe-eyed, and refreshingly casual. By the 1960s she had transformed into a trendsetting sophisticate and achieved unrivaled careers as an actress, model, movie star, and champion for underprivileged children worldwide. Curator and photographic preservationist David Wills has amassed one of the world's largest private collections of original Audrey Hepburn photographs. Now, in Audrey: The 60s, he has gathered spectacular museum-quality work from her key photographers—Richard Avedon, Bert Stern, Cecil Beaton, Douglas Kirkland, William Klein, Terry O'Neill, Howell Conant, Bob Willoughby, Pierluigi Pratulon, Bud Fraker, and many others—to create this stunning portfolio of images that pays homage to the most beloved and enduring style icon of the “decade of change.”

Among the highlights:

  • Rare and classic images digitally restored from their original negatives and transparencies.
  • Never-before-seen publicity photos and candids from the sets of Breakfast at Tiffany's, Charade, My Fair Lady, How to Steal a Million, and Two for the Road.
  • Unpublished outtakes and rarely seen images from Vogue fashion sessions, some not published since their original appearance.
  • Previously unpublished photos by Bert Stern, Cecil Beaton, Douglas Kirkland, William Klein, Howell Conant, Bob Willoughby, Pierluigi Pratulon, and many others.

Pairing more than two hundred first-generation photos with reflections and original quotes from friends, photographers, designers, work associates, and Audrey herself, Audrey: The 60s is an unforgettable showcase of the actress's timeless beauty and extraordinarily influential style.

Timeless Audrey brilliantly and vividly brought to life at her peak! 10. November 2012
Von Charles Casillo - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe
David Wills latest book "Audrey:The 60s" is a work of art. I loved his photography book on Marilyn Monroe and this is an awesome follow-up. He takes his subject--Ms. Hepburn--at her peak of style and beauty, and brings some of the greatest photos ever taken of her to stunning life. You can really feel the care Wills took in the selection and reproduction of each photograph. The color and clarity is perfection. Every page is startling in it's "wow" factor and collectively the book is a huge "WOW"--a treasure, really, that you will enjoy over and over again. Just look at the cover! Every page is just as striking. It's a no brain-er as a gift. Personally, I'm a big admirer of show business legends so "Audrey: The 60s" was a real treat for me. But there's something for everyone to admire in this book: fans of photography and fans of fashion and fans of Hollywood history and of course fans of the timeless Audrey Hepburn. When it comes to photography books David Wills is simply the best in the business.

Utterly Stunning Book 6. Januar 2013
Von Gary P. Cohen - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe
An utterly stunning book on the beautiful and enchanting actress to come out of Hollywood: the incomparable Audrey Hepburn. The book covers my favorite decade of Audrey's films: the 1960s. The films include my three favorite Hepburn films: Charade, Breakfast at Tiffanys and My Fair Lady. Each page has a stunning color or black and white photograph of Hepburn. Some are accompanied by quotes from Hepburn herself, her son Sean Ferrer, the various photographers and designers who worked with her and many of her co-stars including Cary Grant, Rex Harrison, William Holden, Shirley MacLaine, Peter O'Toole, etc.
Some of the photographs are so beautiful that you will be reluctant to turn the page.
In short, this is a gorgeous book on the most charismatic actress ever. If you are a fan of Audrey Hepburn, you must get this book. It is well worth the money.

AUDREY AT HER PEAK! 9. Dezember 2012
Von Gregory B. Mowery - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe Verifizierter Kauf
The first time I saw Audrey Hepburn was in BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S. I was thirteen and she made an indelible impression on me. She was just beautiful with an elfin charm, an effortless quality on the screen that has never been matched by any actress on screen since. It was also my first truly adult movie and Audrey represented this sophisticated, elegant, gorgeously dressed image unlike any other. CHARADE was next and I was hooked. I made it my mission to see every Audrey Hepburn film I could find and nearly 50 years later, she remains my absolute favorite movie star.

When Audrey died, I was frankly surprised that she meant so much to so many and since then, her life has been the subject of numerous biographies, style and photo books, tributes, short stories, calendars, etc. Most cultural icons who die lived lives of addiction and excess. Think Elvis, James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, and they died relatively young. Audrey was in her 60s, and decades beyond the glory years as a romantic screen ingenue, Except for the occasional small film appearance, Audrey was pretty much retired. She had become more famous as an international UN Embassador traveling worldwide to champion the cause of starving children. Yet she continued to fascinate, and her films on VHS and later on DVD continued to extend her legend. Her extraordinary timeless fashion appeal never went out of style--and is still emulated today. I've managed to accumulate a lot of books dedicated to Audrey's life and work, which now numbers over 20 volumes. Naturally, I had to have AUDREY: The 60s.

Beginning with BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S, the book follows Audrey's ascent to superstardom through her final eight films of the decade, made in six short years. David Wills, a photo curator, editor and photographic preservationist, has gathered many new and familiar Hepburn images from her films, and from the Vogue fashion sessions she participated in. Richard Avedon, Bert Stern, Cecil Beaton, Douglas Kirkland, and many other great photographers capture that unique Audrey quality. Friends, colleagues, designers and others provide their own perspective on the Audrey they knew, and Audrey is also quoted from interviews she gave during this period. The iconic Givenchy fashion that helped cement her reputation, shares space here in the sumptuous period costumes of MY FAIR LADY and the ultra-modern swinging 60s costumes she wore in TWO FOR THE ROAD.

This beautiful book, designed by Stephen Schmidt, is a must for Audrey collectors. Bound in Tiffany-blue buckram, and surrounded by a jacket photo of Audrey during a fashion shoot on the front and a classic BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S little black dress on the back, AUDREY; The 60 is the most stylish collection of Audrey photos we've had thus far.

One of my favorites 11. Juli 2013

I've bought probably 20 or so books on Audrey, and this one is easily one of the top 5. I actually don't care for the 60's that much, or Audrey's fashions which started to gravitate away from the glamour of the 50s to more street-style looks and flourishes of hippie culture.

But what I do love is the way this book assembled the content in a loving manner. It's structured around her 60's films, providing a mix of stills and photos presented in full page in an oversized book. There's a mix of her own quotes, movie lines, and quotes about her that accent the photos.

There's little text, so this is more of a way to browse the content and remember the movies in a pleasant manner, and it feels like flipping through memories rather than reading a book.

One thing that puts this book over the top - the was a photo of Audrey in Two for the Road that I've only seen once, in an issue of Premier magazine, that I've never been able to find again. This book had it, and I'm really grateful for that. I didn't think I was ever going to find that particular one again, and now I've finally got a copy for my collection.

Thanks for producing such a fantastic book. I sure hope the author prepares another one that covers the 50's as well.

How else can one describe this most talented, intelligent, strong but gentle, graceful and beautiful woman? She was the epitome of the word class. Mumzy collects Audrey Hepburn books. She has been doing so for quite a few years. This book is a beautiful book. The photographs are fascinating. They capture her ravishing, yet classy beauty: At a particular time in her life when she seemed to be the most beautiful. Her regal beauty had a regal background. She carried herself as royalty for indeed such was her history. For the true collector, this book is a must. One will never regret the purchase. There will only be one Audrey!
