''As a dental student, the text has been of great benefit in terms of its Head and Neck content (Section 1), as well as in acting as a helpful reference medium when learning medicine for dentistry material.Netter undeniably presents a logical, unforgettable visual encyclopaedia for studying anatomy, as well as its application to medicine, and allied healthcare professions. It takes one on a wonderful journey of the intricacies of the human body and is highly recommendable.'' "Mr. Bhaven Modha (Dental Student)"

Über den Autor und weitere Mitwirkende

Frank H. Netter was born in New York City in 1906. He studied art at the Art Students League and the National Academy of Design before entering medical school at New York University, where he received his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1931. During his student years, Dr. Netter's notebook sketches attracted the attention of the medical faculty and other physicians, allowing him to augment his income by illustrating articles and textbooks. He continued illustrating as a sideline after establishing a surgical practice in 1933, but he ultimately opted to give up his practice in favor of a full-time commitment to art. After service in the United States Army during World War II, Dr. Netter began his long collaboration with the CIBA Pharmaceutical Company (now Novartis Pharmaceuticals). This 45-year partnership resulted in the production of the extraordinary collection of medical art so familiar to physicians and other medical professionals worldwide. Icon Learning Systems acquired the Netter Collection in July 2000 and continued to update Dr. Netter's original paintings and to add newly commissioned paintings by artists trained in the style of Dr. Netter. In 2005, Elsevier Inc. purchased the Netter Collection and all publications from Icon Learning Systems. There are now over 50 publications featuring the art of Dr. Netter available through Elsevier Inc. Dr. Netter's works are among the finest examples of the use of illustration in the teaching of medical concepts. The 13-book Netter Collection of Medical Illustrations, which includes the greater part of the more than 20,000 paintings created by Dr. Netter, became and remains one of the most famous medical works ever published. The Netter Atlas of Human Anatomy, first published in 1989, presents the anatomic paintings from the Netter Collection. Now translated into 16 languages, it is the anatomy atlas of choice among medical and health professions students the world over. The Netter illustrations are appreciated not only for their aesthetic qualities, but, more importantly, for their intellectual content. As Dr. Netter wrote in 1949 "clarification of a subject is the aim and goal of illustration. No matter how beautifully painted, how delicately and subtly rendered a subject may be, it is of little value as a medical illustration if it does not serve to make clear some medical point." Dr. Netter's planning, conception, point of view, and approach are what inform his paintings and what make them so intellectually valuable. Frank H. Netter, MD, physician and artist, died in 1991.

An excellent resource for dissection and beyond 3. September 2010
Von Paul Brown - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe Verifizierter Kauf
Currently I am a graduate student at Colorado State University. As a part of my program I must take human dissection. I like this atlas so much that I bought the professional edition for my own study outside the anatomy rooms and I now use my old softcover Netter atlas for dissection. I must also say the main difference between the professional edition and the softcover edition is mainly the covering of the atlas, and there are hardly any other differences. While the pictures are not real photos, the paintings done by Dr. Netter are so accurate I almost prefer them. Based on the pictures I am able to get a clear idea of where structures are positioned before cutting or doing blunt dissection with my fingers/probe/scissors. That being said, there is also great benefit to seeing what the structures should look like after a professional dissection in photographs. I believe it is best to have exposure to both excellent pictures (like in this atlas, for a general location and a grip on vocabulary) and either a cadaver or photos taken by a professional anatomist. I highly recommend this atlas.

pretty good 22. Oktober 2010
Von Laura Roi - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

Netter is pretty great. An institution, even. Hardcover is essential. My only issue with this product is the online 'companion'. It is difficult to search for images, and actually find what you are looking for. The quality is not as high as I would expect, and is fuzzy when blown up to 8.5 x 11 page size. You also can't download or copy photos into your own notes. Probably for copyright protection, but then why put a "download" button (which does not work). The book itself is great!

What can I say? Its Netter's 14. Januar 2011

Well, what can I say about it... it is an anatomy atlas = lots of pictures... But seriously Netters is used by most medical schools and is a very accurate atlas. Sometimes a bit overwhelming, but again its an atlas. Great book in my opinion.

Superior to earlier editions, and an excellent reference for the lay person. 19. August 2011

The Atlas of Human Anatomy is the "go-to" reference. I'm not a med student or even in the field of medicine. But I am an analyst and naturally curious. I just want to know what's hurting and why; where is it and what's it connected to? I have taken it to a variety of doctor's appointments, and they are impressed. It's often better that the charts they have, and helps them to explain my problem to me.
I love this book! Netter is like having a dictionary that never fails to have the word I'm looking for. My first Netter disappeared, (not sure which edition it was) and in spite of the cost of a new one, I'm almost glad I lost the older one. The plates are so much better organized; the color coding of the pages is a big help; and the additional plates and x-rays are another plus.

It is an excellent atlas of human anatomy as it is helpful to the study. The different levels and colors provide insights into the human body both externally and internally.
