Architectural Antiques by Wim Pauwels is a pricey addition to the coffee table, but the book is a wonderful resource for the reader.
Divided into two sections, Inspirational Interiors and The Architectural Antique Dealers, the casual layout provides very few words, leaving beautiful photography to stimulate the mind.
Each section features individual reports that pay tribute to homes, designers, craftsmen and dealers. Their contact information is included with each report.
The homes are primarily country houses in Belgium, however, the monastic calm of the interiors illustrate an intercontinental style familiar to everyone.
Focusing more on reintegrating salvaged building materials, rather than reusing furniture and fixtures, the muted tones of the finishes are beeswax, soap, or oil, with paints and varnishes strictly forbidden.
The author proclaims, "A growing number of individuals are working to create authentic and personal living environments." So with the history of the architectural antique long lost, the journey of discovering the perfect piece can lead to the creation of the most beautiful place in a home.
