A gripping tale of ghosts and friendship, 22. Juni 2011
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Anya's Ghost (Taschenbuch)
I have to admit, what ultimately made me look at the previews and buy this book was the high praise it received from one of my favorite authors, Neil Gaiman. I can understand why it might have appealed to him: Just a couple of dozen pages into the book, the story unfolds in a way that has some strong
Coraline vibes, in that "be-careful-what-you-wish-for"-sense. At the same time, the story retains the charme of a fairy-tale and makes some plain but wise statements about life - again reminiscent of Gaiman's work for young(er) readers. However, "Anya's Ghost" is much more and can stand on its own feet: Besides being delightfully spooky and full of a very convincing attitude towards "teenage angst", it is also hilarious and full of extremely likeable characters, especially Anya herself and of course her Syrniki-frying mother. A tale of ghosts, friendship and, well, just life, that made me smile while reading, and long afterwards.
I hope this book will still be around when I have kids of Anya's age.
