"Angels Walking" is the first book in bestselling author Karen Kingsbury’s new series about second chances.

National baseball star Tyler Ames alienated everyone he loved on his way to the big leagues, including Sami Dawson, the only girl he’s ever loved. Tyler hits rock bottom after suffering a career-ending injury and with no one to turn to, he ends up sleeping in his car. A number of small miracles leads him to a local retirement home, where he is offered a maintenance job and befriends 90-year-old Alzheimer’s sufferer Virginia Hutcheson. This unlikely friendship helps bring healing to both of them. Meanwhile, across the country, Sami starts questioning her relationship and often finds herself thinking of Tyler…

With a lot at stake, an Angels Walking team is assigned to restore hope for Tyler, Sami and Virginia. Will their mission succeed?

This was my second Karen Kingsbury book and I recognized some recurring themes in her writing, such as love, loss, hope, redemption and second chances. These are universal themes that most, if not all, readers can and will identify with. Her emotional writing style really tugs at the heartstrings and once again, I kept welling up while reading – although not nearly as much as I did while reading "The Chance".

In my review of "The Chance" I mentioned the somewhat annoying occurrence of a few rather convenient happenings. While the story in "Angels Walking" took a few such turns as well, they were attributed to the team of angels, thus making them less convenient and more deliberate, which I much preferred.

I’m not usually a fan of the supernatural in books and definitely not of the dark side of the supernatural such as vampires and zombies.

Powerful beginning to a new series 2. September 2014
Von Joan N. - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Kindle Edition
This is the first in a new series from Kingsbury and it is a great beginning.

The “angels walking” refers to angels on assignment on earth, walking among the people, subtly helping them to move in the direction God desires. This novel is about Tyler, a very talented pitcher in Little League and high school. His parents want him to go to college on a baseball scholarship but when he is drafted from high school, he takes that route. He leaves behind parents he has alienated and a girlfriend, Sami, who fervently believes in him.

Tyler gets in trouble working his way up through the minors. Then he suffers a career-ending injury not covered by team insurance. Homeless and nearly broke, he lands a job at a retirement home. It is exactly where God wants him to be. There he meets a woman with Alzheimer's. A woman who thinks he is her son. Her unconditional love changes Tyler's life.

There is great interest in the supernatural now. Current novels usually cover the dark side. Kingsbury gives us a glimpse of the light side of the supernatural, the very real world of angels. Hebrews 13:2 tells us we might meet angels and be totally unaware of it. That's exactly what happens in this novel. Angels look like humans when they bring the right message at the right time. Kingsbury wants us to be more aware of God's fingerprint on our lives.

Besides the importance of the action of angels, other issues are included. One is really living life. At one point Sami and her roommate go to the beach to boogie board the waves. “Look at you, Sami Dawson!” her roommate says. “You're learning to live!” Life is too short to settle for less than what God has in mind for us.

Other issues include parental approval and perfection. Tyler's father really drove Tyler to excel in baseball. Tyler tried hard to be perfect on the mound to get his father's approval. It is quite a revelation when Tyler comes to realize he is loved even in his imperfection.

This series is off to a great start. We are reminded of the reality of angels and their actions on our behalf. We are also reminded of the power and necessity of prayer. I highly recommend this novel.

I received a complimentary egalley of this novel from the publisher for the purpose of an independent and honest review.

Angels Walking 2. September 2014

Tyler Ames has given up those important to him, his parents and girlfriend, Sami. All in the hopes of making it to one of the big teams in baseball. Then an injury ends his career. Tyler hits rock bottom, but with the help of some special friends - all things fall into place.

Angels Walking opens with an angels meeting in heaven. What a wonderful image that was! To have a mental picture of angels meeting in heaven, planning how they might help us on earth. Angels Walking is a story of grace, forgiveness and love through a series of miracles. The story is a great reminder of Hebrews 13:2, "Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing so some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it." A look at how the Lord uses angels even today, but do we recognize them?

I write this review with tears in my eyes and my heart full. Kingsbury knows how to tell a story and pull at my heart strings. I love how she used many people and their kind acts to weave a tale of recovery for Tyler. Each Kingsbury book causes me to think. To examine my heart. I walk away from reading Angels Walking with a reminder to watch more closely for those "angels" in my life.

Angels Walking is the first in a new series and will release on September 2, 2014. I'm already eagerly anticipating the next in the series.

I was provided with an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. Thank you, Howard Books and NetGalley for the opportunity.

One of the best inspirational novels I've read this year! Now I can't wait for the next one in the series! 2. September 2014

"Don't forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing, some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it." ~ Hebrews 13:2

There are simply some books that touch more than your heart, they embed themselves into your soul and change you for the better. Those are the books you want to run around and simply tell everyone you know to grab this book and read it. This was simply one I could not put down. I've been a huge fan of supernatural Christian fiction, the kind of books that deals with the unseen world, or the world in which angels and demons dwell, because I believe it's real.

Karen Kingsbury, who remains one of my all-time favorite authors, has begun a new series, Angels Walking and the first book to make it's debut is the same title, Angels Walking. In it, we get a first hand glance at the workings of a group of angels assigned to work in the lives of some people struggling to make ends meet and to make sense of their lives. If they continue on their chosen path, God's glory in all of it, would end up lost and so would the humans to whom they have been assigned. They are simply known in the heavenly realm as the Angels Walking Team.

There first mission is to work with Tyler Ames, who is making his way to the big league as a rising pitcher for the Florida minor league baseball team, the Blue Wahoos. On the most critical night of his career, his is about to pitch the most perfect game and in the stands are recruiters from the Reds. He knows if he can finish this game off, he will be set for life. But God has other plans in mind for Tyler, one that will take him all the way to the lowest points in his life to teach him a new beginning. It will be one that will undoubtedly bring him back to God and clearly see that God has His hand in it all.

The Angels Walking team has also been assigned to Samantha Dawson, who was Tyler's first love from high school and the only girl that truly believed that Tyler could go all the way. Now six years later, Tyler has grown so much that time since he went away to make something of himself that he simply never looked back and in the process forget the girl back home that believed he could do anything and go anywhere he dreamed. Now Sami is struggling against her own desires and those of the man she is dating Arnie, who only dreams of a political future and how he can get to the top. Sami is the dream match for a man looking to one day become the next president and knows that with Sami by his side, he will be assured no skeletons will surface that might destroy him. But has Sami given up on her own dreams to settle for what her grandparents and Arnie have in mind instead for her future?

Virginia Hutcheson is stuck living in the past, 1970 to be exact. Alzheimer's has stripped her beautiful mind and left a former shell of who she used to be. All she knows is that she needs to find her son Ben but it seems like no one will believe her. She spends her days and nights locked up, medicated to prevent her from leaving the retirement facility, and wishing for one more day with her son Ben. Her daughter Cheryl has been notified if her mother gets any worse, she will need to be transferred to another facility that is more suited to deal with the advance stages of Alzheimer and one that would be more than an hour away. If only she could find a way to reach her mother before it's too late?

I received Angels Walking by Karen Kingsbury compliments of Howard Books, a division of Simon and Schuster Publishers for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review and the opinions expressed here are strictly my own. The one thing I can tell you about most of Karen Kingsbury's books is that stay with you. They change you. They most certainly will make you cry and you will definitely want to read them again and again. I am slowly growing my collection and have proudly added Angels Walking to my collection. The only downfall is waiting for the next book in the series to be published. The writing style is superb, the characters believable and flawed, and the intervention of the angels is to remain unseen as to ensure God is given the glory and they are not worshiped instead. This is such a beautiful book that anyone who is looking for a book that will change the way they see the world and our circumstances in it, this is for you. A reader's discussion guide is included and I look forward to hearing about Karen's angel experience in her next book. I know I have clearly seen the hand of God at work in my own life and know without a doubt that there are Angels Walking among us. Hands down a 5 out of 5 stars!!!

In my opinion, her best book yet 2. September 2014
Von Kindle Customer - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
I've read most of Karen Kingsbury's novels - I've been one of her biggest fans - but this book was above and beyond anything she's ever written. It's the story that had me gripped in its clutches from page one. I read it straight through - cover to cover - in about 6 hours. I've thought about exactly what she said in the epilogue - if people are searching for the spiritual (as they seem to be), why is it always the spirit of darkness and never of light that we find in the popular stories? The spiritual forces are real and I loved imagining these two angels working to bring praise to their Heavenly Father by completing a mission for Him. I cried at many points as I was reading, when things moved me, but the part about how we don't have to be perfect because that's God's job - that was the most moving part. Such a powerful message and one I needed so desperately to hear right now.

Angels Walking

Wow! Everyone has wanted Karen to do a new series and well she has! This new series with book 1, Angels Walking has got to be one of the most amazing stories God has laid on Karens hands to write. From the first page to the last line I was so drawn into this book. This story is one that I just can't even to begin to tell you how this book touches so many places of my heart! These stores of these angels and how they are helping to serve a mission really makes you think about real events in your life that you may never have before. Then we have these characters they really became so real to me because the main character you have someone that is on top of the world then completely
Loses everything and how easy it was for people to just forget about him! Please everyone take the time to read this book! I truly hope it touches your heart like it does mine. Blessings
