My grandma used to always say that desserts are actually good for you because they make you happy. With all the stress of everyday life, I guess that’s not too far from the truth.

When I think of the happy times in my life, I realize most of them were celebrated with some kind of dessert. This is a cookbook featuring copy-cat dessert recipes from popular restaurants including Applebee's, Arby's, Baskin-Robbins, The Cheesecake Factory, Chili's, IHOP, Outback Steak House, and more. Included are recipes for Applebee's Deadly Chocolate Sin, The Cheesecake Factory's Banana Cream Cheesecake, and Cracker Barrel's Banana Pudding, Loco Luna's Cream Cheese Turtle Cake, Ruby Tuesday's Apple Pie, Dunkin' Donut's Vanilla-Filled Donuts, to name just a few.

I've tried one recipe so far, California Pizza Kitchen's Butter Cake, with good results. It's a simple cake that lends itself to adding fruit and other toppings for variety but tastes great all by itself. I haven't tried the original from the restaurant to compare but we were pleased with how this dessert turned out.

I'm looking forward to trying some other recipes such as Starbuck's Cranberry Bliss Bars, T.G.I Friday's Brownie Obsession, and Chili's Apple and Raisin Cobbler.

Most of the recipes seem easy enough and suitable for beginner cooks, but more advanced cooks will also enjoy this cookbook. The ingredients are those readily found in any larger grocery store.

The only downside is that there are no photos at all except for the one on the cover, and the book doesn't stay open when using. Other than those issues, I do like this cookbook for the unique recipes.

The recipes in this book are delicious...but, NOT low-calorie. Since I am a junk food junkie, the calories do not mean much. However, if you are watching your weight, choose something else. I purchased this with the other Ron Douglas books and was not disappointed.
