Produktbeschreibungen

Amazon.co.uk

Fans of Mary Higgins Clark and cosy mysteries will relish this Christmas confection. Unlike her previous holiday novel, Silent Night, All Through the Night is virtually free of life-and-death crime. Rather, it is a Dickensian tale of good deeds rewarded and crimes punished.

The wintry story begins on the Upper West Side of Manhattan with 18-year-old Sondra Lewis, an aspiring violinist, tearfully leaving her baby on the steps of St. Clement's Church. Unbeknownst to her, Lenny Centino is robbing that same church on the same night, with his attention particularly on the Church's diamond inlaid chalice. He finds a buggy outside the church and uses it for cover as he flees. Only later does he realize that his take for the night includes the infant Stellina (Italian for star). The narrative then abruptly moves ahead seven years. Clark's lottery-winning protagonists, Alvirah and her husband Willy (introduced in Weep No More, My Lady) return for some amateur sleuthing. Sister Cordelia's thrift shop doubles as an after-school recreation place for neighbourhood children (including a shy little girl named Star), but the building has been condemned. Bessie Maher had vowed she was leaving the house to the nun and her children. Now that she is gone, the will indicates that the tenants of the house, Vic and Linda Baker, are the true heirs. As December rushes on towards Christmas, Alvirah struggles to put things right before the children are left in the cold.

Like the best holiday stories, All Through the Night steers towards sentimentality, but it veers back on course with narrative wit and Alvirah's charm. Clark's prose is lean and her plotting is brisk. This is a mystery that would be a pleasure to share aloud with a family gathered at the fireplace for some holiday cheer. --Patrick O'Kelley -- Dieser Text bezieht sich auf eine vergriffene oder nicht verfügbare Ausgabe dieses Titels.

Disappointing 17. April 2000
Von Ein Kunde
Format:Taschenbuch
Mary Higgins Clark has become one of my favorite authors. Everytime she gets a new book out I can't wait to read it. I'm afraid I can't say that about All Through The Night. I was extremely disappointed. I was looking forward to a page turner. I wanted to read a murder mystery, a story that involved suspense and surprise. This book had none of them. I had no desire to finish the book. Books with the characters Alvirah and Willy just don't seem to be Clarks strong points. She needs to stick to her suspenseful novels. I love her murder mystery books. This book I just finished was bad. I didn't like the love story part. I found the mystery part of the book way to easy to figure out. The whole story line wasn't good. I missed the suspens and excitment. I usually can't wait to find out what happens next, in this book I could have cared less. After the first few chapters of the book I got bored. The whole drug dealer picking up the baby and then the old lady and the will, I just could tell that this book wasn't going to be good. I knew right away that the couple who had the will were the bad guys. I also figured out that the lost baby and her mother were going to be reunited. It was all so easy. Mary Higgins Clark should stick to writing stories like her Loves Music, Loves to Dance. She needs stories filled with murder and drama. All Through The Night was a big disappointment to me. I just hope that her next book is a whole lot better.

No plot, no suspense not even entertaining. After reading most of Ms.Higgins Clark novels I must say that she can do much better than that.

This is the first book I have read by Ms. Higgins Clark, and I have to say that I am extremely disappointed. Being that she is always on the bestseller's lists, I expected more I guess. The story was thin and predictable, and the writing juvenile. I will save it for my daughter to read when she is a little older, perhaps she would enjoy it. Having your main character trying to emulate Hercule Poirot is pitiful, especially when she says several times in the book, "Think like Hercule Poirot!" If Ms. Higgins Clark can't do any better than that, then she ought to think about retiring.

Kein typischer Clark-Thriller ....
... aber eine recht interessante Detektiv-Story.

Ein entführtes Baby und ein seltsames Testament - beides beschäftigt die Hobby-Detektivin Alvirah. Lesen Sie weiter...

Great Christmas Story
Very good. Great plot that keeps you riveted until the end. Slightly less suspenseful than some of Higgins Clark's other books. Cute ending. I'd recomend it to amyone 14 and up.

No Need to Stay Up All Through the Night
Mary Higgins Clark should return to the style which made her famous. There is no twist, no suspense, no murder. Extremely predictable. Lesen Sie weiter...

This book is a nice little holiday suspense book.
Even though this book was not as long as most of Clark's books, it was still an enjoyable read. I particularly liked the plot development. Lesen Sie weiter...
