Aliens Book One

I was greatly surprised by this book. It is probably the best of the comics, and focuses on the survival of Hicks and Newt. I heard other reviewers say that the comics were better than the last two movies, and I must agree. ... The story focuses on the survivors of the Aliens mission, Hicks and Newt. After their arrival on Earth, they were seperated and unable to communicate with each other. But when an Alien Hiveworld is found the goverment needs Hicks expertise and drag him along. But not before he rescues Newt(who is much older due to the elapsed time spent on earth) and takes her with him. After barely escaping the alien mission, Newt and Hicks realize that the aliens are setting up a bigger hiveworld, a hiveworld on the planet earth.

Aliens Book One: A rare must-have for Aliens Fans

This volume is a must-have for Aliens fans. The original graphic-format follow-up to ALIENS, and the quite possibly the reason Dark Horse Comics still publishes today, this collection is nothing short of spectacular. This compilation of six individually published Aliens comics follows the story of Hicks and Newt (Ripley is mysteriously absent) when they return to an Earth where conniving company executives have inadvertantly released the alien scourge upon the populace. As this story was written before ALIEN 3 and ALIEN RESSURECTION, it is not in line with the current movie plots. More on this later. Verheiden's story is compelling, and his treatment of everyone's favorite xenomorphs is nothing short of spectacular. The plot tantalizes the imagination, and the narrative keeps the reader informedwithout burdening him with an overcomplicated script. The book is in black-and-white, which may not appeal to everyone. Warner's illustrations are cutting-edge, yet down to earth, and capture the action in simple lines and tones. We all know that the only truly imnportant aspect of an Aliens comic is the quality of the rendition of the title characters, and Warner delivers in spades. A color version of this book, titled "Aliens: Outbreak" is available. This version has been brought "in line with 20th Century Fox continuity", which means Hicks and Newt have been replaced by dummy characters with eerily familiar backstories. While that volume has been colored, it is little more than a cheap knock-off. Anyone over the age of thirteen should be able to handle the discontinuity, especially given the quality of this story (which is, in this reviewers oppinion, far superior to that of the later movies). ACCEPT NO SUBSTITUTES, buy this book!

this book rocks. i see absolutly nothing wrong with it (after all, even though i am not very picky with comics, i do not just go handing around five stars)
the story revolves around Newt and Hicks, ten years after the events of ALIENS, Although Now Newt is almost an aldult, and Hicks's face is damaged from when it was exposed to Alien blood. Hicks has been in prisin, and Newt has been in a mental hospital. Hicks is released for one reason: the Aliens are back. so, he breaks Newt out of the mental hospital, and they go on a ship to the Alien home planet. during ths time, Newt falls in love with a marine named Butler. however, on Earth, an Alien Queen is captured, and held in captvity, until a misguided religious cult unleashes it on the unsuspecting planet. now, Hicks and Newt must fight to win back their planet...or at least survive!
the story and execution are both flawless. the story does not just revolve around the Aliens, but around the characters and their life. the love story with Newt and Butler is perfectly executed, and is a major part of the story, yet does not get in the way of it. Hicks's Personol life is not very important to how things work out. the book has many twists you will not see coming (such as the truth about Butler and the other marines, and the way the book ends)
the art is exellent. the paticular art style in this book is actually better off in black and white. it fits in well with the story.
over all, this book is perfect. if you are an ALIENS fan, than make sure to buy ALIENS: BOOK ONE as soon as possible.
