Kurzbeschreibung

22. September 2009
He could tell it was going to be a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. He went to sleep with gum in his mouth and woke up with gum in his hair. When he got out of bed, he tripped over his skateboard and by mistake dropped his sweater in the sink while the water was running. He could tell it was going to be a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.
It was a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. Nothing at all was right. Everything went wrong, right down to lima beans for supper and kissing on TV.
What do you do on a day like that? Well, you may think about going to Australia. You may also be glad to find that some days are like that for other people too.

Amazon.de

"I went to sleep with gum in my mouth and now there's gum in my hair and when I got out of bed this morning I tripped on the skateboard and by mistake I dropped my sweater in the sink while the water was running and I could tell it was going to be a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day."

So begin the trials and tribulations of the irascible Alexander, who has been earning the sympathy of readers since 1972. People of all ages have terrible, horrible days, and Alexander offers us the cranky commiseration we crave as well as a reminder that things may not be all that bad. As Alexander's day progresses, he faces a barrage of bummers worthy of a country- western song: getting smushed in the middle seat of the car, a dessertless lunch sack, a cavity at the dentist's office, stripeless sneakers, witnessing kissing on television, and being forced to sleep in railroad-train pajamas. He resolves several times to move to Australia.

Judith Viorst flawlessly and humorously captures a child's testy temperament, rendering Alexander sympathetic rather than whiny. Our hero's gum-styled hair and peevish countenance are artfully depicted by Ray Cruz's illustrations. An ALA Notable Book, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day is a great antidote to bad days everywhere, sure to put a smile on even the crabbiest of faces. (Ages 5 to 9) -- Dieser Text bezieht sich auf eine andere Ausgabe: Gebundene Ausgabe .

5.0 von 5 Sternen A nice book to read 16. September 2013
Von Trident
Format:Kindle Edition
I was curious to read the book as it was suggested by a friend. The quality of digitized version is relatively good, the images (enhanced with colors) are appealing.

5.0 von 5 Sternen It got me through (my kids') childhood 23. Mai 2000
Von Ein Kunde
Format:Taschenbuch
It was both of my children's favorite book, and also my favorite to read to them, 25 years ago, or so. My only regret is that my favorite line, one I still say, wasn't in the edition I read in a book store two or three years ago.
Old timers will remember that at snack time, the "cookies were the plain kind." For my kids, that was Bad Stuff!

I bought and read this book looooong before I had any children. When I first read the book I thought that it was a cute story with many quotable lines. It wasn't until recently though, now that my children are ages 1-9 that I realized that this is probably NOT fiction, but a true-to-life account of life with children.
The string of events, from waking up to gum in his hair to everything else that happens is funny. Why is it funny? Because it's all too TRUE!
Great story, great illustrations. Viorst at the top of her form!
A definite keeper -- 5+ stars!

5.0 von 5 Sternen How do you do it, Judith? 14. Mai 2000
Von Ein Kunde
Format:Taschenbuch
I read this years ago, because the title just fractured me. I always have a copy nearby, to soothe my jangled nerves when I've had a terrible, horrible, etc. etc. etc. (Adults definitely have these days, too, you know!)
I volunteer to help first graders read at a school nearby and they love to have this book read to them. It cheers them up to know they're not alone, and whenever we're feeling grumpy, we just have to say "I'm having a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day," and a smile, even a tiny one, starts to appear.
Thank you Judith, for this book. I'll treasure and share it always.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Not just for little kids! 8. Mai 2000
Von "lcjmom"
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
I am a teacher and I read this book to my 5th and 6th grade classes each year when I have had a horrible day myself. We all get a very good laugh because we ALL have days like Alexander, from getting squished in the car, to "accidently" calling Australia (his dad prefers that they don't pick him up at the office anymore). Each kid gets a big kick from Alexander's comment that there is "kissing on television, and I hate kissing." We even make our own very bad day books when necessary. This is a must read for teachers and parents of kids of any age!

4.0 von 5 Sternen Wonderfully Funny 19. Februar 2000
Format:Taschenbuch
Every child experiences a bad day, so any child will love this book. The text being repeated over and over is good for the child just learning to read. The illustrations are very detailed and the reader gets a wonderful image of the character through illustration and conversation. This is a totally awesome book.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Marvelous, Wonderful, No Fault, Very Good Book! 30. Januar 2000
Format:Taschenbuch
Though I wouldn't necessarily admit this to anyone over about 3 feet tall, I must say this is my all time favorite book bar none. I read it as a child and found myself instantly relating to Alexander and distinctly remember feeling pleased that someone...anyone...else had the capacity to blow a day full of minor irratations out of proportion so dramatically. Now, as a preschool teacher I love it yet more because not only do the children have terrible, horrible, no good, very bad days, but when they do, so too do I. I find myself reading the book out loud with so much drama and emphasis that it is emensely cathartic for all of us! I adore this book and firmly believe that every human on the planet would benefit from dramatic readings of it from time to time.
