Agile Business: A Leader's Guide to Harnessing Complexity is an engaging introduction to Agile Development from a business perspective. It contains practical real-world advice from over 30 coaches, executives, developers and managers who are actively using Agile in their organizations and helping others achieve Agility. Written in language that can be easily grasped and put to use whether you have previous Agile experience or not, Agile Business is broken down into five simple parts: "Build the Right Thing," which covers product management, innovation and product roadmaps. "Build the Thing Right," which covers the testing and engineering practices that contribute to organizational Agility. "People, not Resources," which focuses on management practices and organizational culture building that motivates individuals to do great work. "Agile Steering," which covers dynamic planning and funding models that are compatible with a more Agile way of operating. "And Transform Your Organization," which lays out the path for getting from where you are now to where you want to be as an organization. Whether you're looking for an introduction to the topic or want to deepen your own practice, Agile Business will help you understand and apply Agile principles to your business and your life.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Agile Business: the "why" for Agile 15. Juli 2013
Von M. Swenson - Veröffentlicht auf
This book does a terrific job of explaining WHY one would bring Agile development techniques into an organization, from a business (rather than technical) perspective.

There are a lot of great books that actually explain the "how", but they are mostly geared toward tech folks. The essays in this book are written by Agile practitioners, presenting the business results of adopting Agile techniques in your organization: how it impacts teams, culture & results. This is the book to read when you're trying to decide whether to use Agile in your organization (or looking for good info to use to convince others). Lots of useful information, real stories, and an easy read. Highly recommended!

This is an example of a book that was team-written by multiple people, and really just contains a bunch of pointers to other works, with short (2-3 paragraphs in some cases) summaries of why you should read them. There are few pragmatic examples, very little how-to instruction. In its defense, I will say that the pointers are to very good techniques, and the arrangement of ideas is very systematic. But don't expect any depth or learning here.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A new clarity for Lean & Agile businesses 14. August 2013

Format:Taschenbuch|Verifizierter Kauf
This is quite a different book on Agile, covering the full enterprise.
Everything from Scrum to Portfolio Management is covered.

However, it differs by presenting ideas in short punchy essays. This makes it enjoyable to read, and easily dipped into when trying to gain some ground in a specific area.

Scrum teams, Agile managers and entrepreneurs would do well to follow this books teachings.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Agile Business is full of pearls of wisdom, based on the real world experience 26. Juli 2013

I have been using Agile methodologies in software development for over 5 years and read a number of books on the topic. This one stands out, as it covers much more than just dry explanation of various Agile methodology rituals. The book is full of short very targeted essays that cover specific topics and have very personal touch as the words come from deep experience. I am glad that the authors put stress on transformation of organization and go into details explaining how proper implementation of Agile practices in organization can create a very positive, trusting, creative and engaging environment.
Highly recommend!

5.0 von 5 Sternen One of the better business books out there - Agile for non-developers 18. Juli 2013
Von Meganutella - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Kindle Edition
I've been reading business books for a long time, especially in the areas of culture, organization change, product development, and people (since these are the topics I think about at work, too!). There is a LOT of fluff out there. So, I was surprised by the clarity in thinking and heartened by the insights offered in this book.
I think what is most striking is that this isn't a book written by a Guru. It's a book of essays, organized around specific themes like "Build the right thing," "Build the right thing," etc. And you hear the voices on many different perspectives. So if you read it straight through, it feels like a juicy dinner conversation with some of your smarter friends. And if you read only a couple of chapters focused on where you have a question, it's like getting great advice from a mentor. I so appreciate that there is no "expert," just thoughtful people who would be curious about how you actually did solve your problem if you do something differently. Breath of fresh air!
I'm not in technology development, and this book is still easy to read and not jargon-y. I know 2-3 company founders I plan to send this book to!
