Das Buch ist in englische Sprache, daher meine Beurteilung in Englisch:

Great book in a nice format. The part I like most is the practical part, where exercises are shown and explained, followed by the sample workout sequences and the biographies, especially the one from Casey Conrad. I am impressed about the amount of research and explanations on the effects nutrition has on the body. It is great that the book also offer an easier option for some exercises. I like this because for someone with problems, it shows that the author/teacher acknowledges that there are different bodytypes and problem areas and that there is an easier option, where a student can still benefit from.

As a yoga teacher and woman in her 50's I am keenly aware of how important it is to build and maintain strength in my body and help my students to do the same. Mr VanEs does a fantastic job in his book to explain the many health benefits of bodyweight exercises. It has clearly written instructions for all levels along with some great photos. The chapter on Osteoporosis is an awakening call for women of all ages. As a teacher I refer to this book often and highly recommend it, not only to my students, but to any woman who wants to do what's within her power to live a long healthy life!

Overall this is a good resource. It has detailed instructions on how to perform various body-weight strength exercises. There are clear pictures that make it very easy to understand the poses. There are also variations on the exercises to make them more or less challenging. That part of the book is wonderful.

However, are also two major problems with the book. First of all, roughly the first 1/4 of the book is just an endless litany of why strength training (and body-weight exercises in particular) is just super double quintuple awesome and good for every problem known to man. I finally had to skip through that part of the book altogether. It's important to understand the benefits of any type of exercise you plan to pursue, but this was overkill. It could have been far more concise. I felt as if someone was trying desperately to sell me something that I already bought.

Secondly, there is no information about which muscles are strengthened by each exercise. The exercises are organized according to difficulty level, but the author leaves it up to the reader to figure the specific benefits of each exercise. This makes it difficult to plan any sort of exercise program around these poses.

In summary, the actual exercises are well-described and clearly illustrated, but there's far too much fluff and no information about which muscle groups the exercises target.

This book is not what I expected. I read a review somewhere (not here and don't remember where) but I got he impression the book was for seniors. I purchased the book for my Mom who is a senior. The exercises show in the book are IMO not appropriate for many over 60 or even some over 30. This misunderstanding is my fault and not the books. While the exercises may not be appropriate for seniors the health information in the book is for everyone. Only thing is this is an exercise book not a health book. Too much of the book is spent on health issues not exercises. Not only that but the vast majority of the exercise are done on your hands and knees. A position like doing push ups or a downward facing dog Yoga pose. If you flip through the book and just look at the exercises it appears >90% are done while in this position. If you have shoulder issues I strongly suggest you look elsewhere. I wish the book would have had a better variety of exercises and that they appropriate for a larger age demographic. I really don't understand the reviews posted for this book.

A must read for any woman hoping to increase upper body strength. Easy to follow and very good illustrations. Very rooted in yoga tradition but you don't have to be a yoga practitioner to be able to use. I'm getting another copy for my 80+ mom!

I have found this book to be a great addition to my regular yoga practice. The more yoga I practice, the better I feel--more toned, more energetic, stronger, and more flexible. Additionally, yoga has helped me to build lean tissue and to lose the weight that is no longer serving me. This book has been a great companion to the yoga and aerobic exercises I already do. The book is knowledgeable, well laid out, simple to follow, and easy to incorporate into my busy life. I have seen results already both in how I look and, more importantly, how I feel and function. As a woman, I have often called on my husband to do the "heavy lifting" around the house. No more!
