"As I read "Advanced Acceptance and Commitment Therapy," I kept turning to my personal knowledge of Darrah Westrup and her incredible ability to communicate, in writing, her gifted therapeutic experience and understanding of ACT. I know Darrah as both a colleague and a friend, and this book shines a bright light on her amazing talent and facility with the intervention. Readers will be engaged from the opening pages regarding theory and processes, through the thoughtful and seasoned application of ACT, all the way to its invitation to continue the ACT journey at the book's close. She brings to this volume not only a digestible, considered, and at times humorous read, that every therapist, not just those using ACT, will find invaluable, but also a personal sense of herself that is kind, grounded, and compassionate. Thank you, Darrah, for this beautiful contribution to the ACT community and therapist community at large." --Robyn D. Walser, PhD, associate director of dissemination and training at the National Center for PTSD, director at TL Consultation Services, and assistant clinical professor at the University of California, Berkeley

Are you ready to take your ACT practice to the next level? If so, Advanced Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is a powerful resource that can help you streamline your approach and overcome common hurdles that present in therapy.

At some point or another, you have probably encountered difficulty putting theory into practice when it comes to using ACT in sessions with clients. You aren’t alone. Although ACT is a powerful treatment option for a number of psychological issues, such as anxiety, depression, trauma, eating disorders, and more, it is a complex, ever-evolving model, and as such it can often be difficult to deliver effectively. The truth is that even the most seasoned ACT therapist will face challenges in their client sessions from time to time.

This is the only advanced professional ACT book on the market, and it is designed to help you close the gap between what you’ve learned in ACT training and your actual client sessions. Inside, licensed psychologist Darrah Westrup, PhD, provides valuable tips and real-life client scenarios to help you hone your understanding of the core processes behind ACT. You’ll also learn practical strategies for moving past common barriers that can present during therapy, such as over-identifying with clients or difficulty putting theory into practice. Most importantly, you’ll learn when to deliver specific ACT components, and how to adapt your treatment for each client.

This user-friendly, pragmatic, and thoughtful guide does not promote “error-free” ACT, but rather, ways to identify and work with the therapy process as it unfolds. A must-read for any therapist or mental health professional interested in sharpening their ACT skills.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Kudos for Advanced ACT: The Experienced Practitioner's Guide to Optimizing Delivery 30. Mai 2014

Format:Gebundene Ausgabe|Verifizierter Kauf
I am halfway through Darrah Westrup's new book and can't put it down. As an ACT practitioner, it is just full of ahas for me and exactly what I need at this stage of my learning and practicing. ACT is an amazingly effective counseling technology but it requires precision, timeliness, intuition, compassion and delicacy in its application.I am thankful for this solid text, which, from my perspective, fills a gap in our literature. I also love the style in which it is written, so light and fun that it provides ease of access to and retention of Westrup's counseling room wisdom. This text should be on every ACT counselor and coach's self of accessible, well-used and beloved texts. Thank you, Darrah.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Simply OUTSTANDING!!! 1. Juli 2014

This is my first review on Amazon and for good reason. I was compelled to write a review for Advanced ACT by Darrah Westrup. As a student of ACT for quite some time, I have read many of the texts, and yet this particular book shines brightly in its own uniqueness. The breadth and depth of experience and wisdom shared through Darrah's words is literally oozing off of each of the pages. I read this book cover to cover within a few days because it had me hooked. You will enjoy its simplicity and elegance in taking complex situations and breaking them down into easy and digestible components. Advanced ACT is practical, clear, concise, and along with the texts of the founders of ACT and the work of Russ Harris, Advanced ACT is a MUST READ for any clinician who would like to master the overt and especially subtle challenges the ACT model may offer to both clinicians and clients. If you are worried about reading another ACT book with similarities to much of what you already know and read, this book is definitely not one of them. Advanced ACT will have you smiling with its precision and acts as a breath of fresh air when reading. If I could give this book 10 stars, I would.

As a practitioner of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), I have bought and studied perhaps 20 ACT textbooks over the years. I can say without hesitation that Dr. Westrup's book on advanced techniques is one of the very best. She treats both ACT concepts and clinical challenges with such insight, clarity and conviction that she has already made an important positive impact on the way I do this work. I believe that any ACT practitioner will find that Dr. Westrup's book can improve the quality and effectiveness of her or his interactions with clients.

5.0 von 5 Sternen New insights for ACT theory and practice 31. Dezember 2014

Six months in and on my third reading of this book and I am finding new clues about using ACT, thanks to Dr Westrup for sharing her practices and insights. Reading this book is like having a new supervisor because she shows us how to work effectively in the consulting room by comparing useful and not so useful practices. The techniques are useful for practitioners of any theoretical persuasion. Dr Westrup's style is one of a friendly colleague, conversational and yet positively challenging.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A thought provoking and essential clinical text 19. Juni 2014

I am very pleased to have this book in my ACT collection. A compelling message about the pervasiveness of the avoidance and control agenda-particularly as it applies to the function of therapeutic interventions and therapist comments in session. Also a consideration of timing and using ACT in a fluid, moment-by-moment way by keeping conceptualisation central. Highly recommended to all experienced ACT clinicians.
