The easy way to take charge of your adrenal health

Despite their small size, the adrenal glands play an important role in the body, producing numerous hormones that impact our development and growth, affect our ability to deal with stress, and help to regulate kidney function. In Adrenal Fatigue For Dummies, you'll find clear self-evaluations and treatment guidelines that will empower you to take charge of your adrenal health through nutrition, vitamins, herbs, bioidentical adrenal hormone supplementation, and self-care practices.

Adrenal fatigue is in essence a "tired out" adrenal gland that is not able to support the body the way that it should. The effects can be far-reaching and affect the quality of one's daily life. It can affect the immune system, cause inflammation, decrease sex drive, and inhibit the ability to get up in the morning. But now there's hope!

4.0 von 5 Sternen one of the two most common health problems 31. Oktober 2014

Adrenal dysfunction and underactive thyroid are the two most common health problems, but mainstream doctors are clueless so they are rarely diagnosed and treated. This is an excellent and knowledgeable introduction to the importance of the adrenal glands, for those who are tired and often ill.

This book has much important information about common symptoms linked to adrenal health:

- blood sugar levels (including crankiness around mealtimes)
- blood pressure (both low and high)
- lethargy, confusion, tiredness or weakness
- trouble sleeping (and naps don't help)
- dizziness or lightheadness
- profound sweating
- palpitations and tachycardia
- recurrent infections
- allergies
- cystitis, interstitial cystitis
- brain fog and depression

Note: many of these are also symptoms of underactive thyroid.

Restless leg syndrome and osteoporosis are listed too but actually they are usually due to low magnesium levels, which anyone with a chronic health problem will suffer from. There are also references to metabolic syndrome and diabetes but those who suffer would benefit from reading "Treatment Essentials" by Dr Mark Sircus which explains that all these are strongly linked to low magnesium levels in the body (blood tests do not reveal this because only 1% of magnesium is in the blood). (For diabetics, there is vital information in "New Paradigms in Diabetic Care" by Sircus.)

There is a questionnaire but STTM website offers several easy and quick home self-tests which are far more useful. Adrenal lab tests are also discussed but STTM again is better in this regard, offering links so you can get the 24 hour saliva adrenal test done yourself as mainstream doctors (again) are clueless about this.

Adrenal health also controls pH levels (acidity) in the body and lab tests are explained here, also urinary pH strip tests, but using pH strips to check saliva is much easier and you can do this at home regularly, to check whether whatever you're doing is helping. Heavy metal toxicity and pollution are covered but, again, the books by Dr Sircus are more practically useful for this.

The dangers of faucet water are briefly touched on but not the new evidence showing it's so filled with dangerous byproducts of chlorine, drug residues, parasites and other micro-organisms that several studies are showing a higher incidence of birth defects in the offspring of mothers who drank the most tap water while pregnant (so what's it doing to you?!).

Unfortunately, there was some misleading information among the great info. There's the claim that pregnenolone the grandmother hormone in the adrenal glands, blocks cortisol. Not in my experience and those of friends who are using Nutricology Pregnenolone as a partial adrenal support!

I am also concerned about the bog standard advice to reduce salt and increase calcium intake. Yes, sodium chloride (table salt) is a poison. Worse, later on there is a section on increasing intake of sodium chloride for certain reasons. Oh dear. It should have been a recommendation for unrefined sea salt which in fact is essential for health, as explained in "Calcium Lie II" (which also shows how we all have far too much calcium). Unrefined sea salt contains all the minerals needed by the body and in the exact proportions needed.

In the introductory section, mentioning causes of adrenal problems, there is no reference to the fact that untreated underactive thyroid will sooner or later cause adrenal problems, because the two are partners in the body. This is partly redeemed by chapter 7, where there is a section explaining the interaction between the thyroid and adrenal glands but I believe there should be far more stress on the links between these two glands.

Anyone who suspects thyroid issues should also know that mainstream doctors rely on one lab test they've been told is the gold standard, that lousy TSH lab test which actually tests a gland in the head (yes, that's right), not the thyroid at the bottom of the throat .The real gold standard is the basal temperature test: stopthethyroidmadness (STTM) website has good instructions for this. STTM (website and book) also offers the best advice I've seen anywhere on successful treatments for mild, moderate and severe adrenal dysfunction.

My life has changed in one week after reading this book. It gave me valuable information that will literally save my life. Dr's we're treating my symptoms but not getting to the source of the problems. With the help of this book I am in control of my own health. For me it is a miracle and I feel I can help others with this knowledge I've gained. Thanks so much for writing this book!
