5.0 von 5 Sternen Impressive. 10. Juli 2013
Von squeak - Veröffentlicht auf
Recently I spent a lot of money and lost 14 hours of my life to a 2 day instructor led Lightroom 5 course. I've also read other Lightroom books and spent countless hours watching online videos on the subject, but have always felt something was missing or lacking in them.

I should have just saved the money and time and bought this book instead.

I haven't even made it through the entire book, but I've already learned more awesome tips and tricks in the hour I've spent with the book than in the entire 14 hours I wasted in that class. The section on the Match Total Exposure command alone was worth the price of the book.

Admittedly, some of the information presented can get a bit technical, so some of the explanations might be lost on the absolute beginner photographer. That said, I found the step-by-step explanations of how to do things quite concise and easy to understand. Best of all, the author doesn't just gloss over what each slider in the develop module does. I've watched a lot of video tutorials where the narrator will move sliders around without telling you exactly why or what's actually happening to the image. Mr. Evening actually takes the time to explain HOW to process images to bring out the best in them.

3.0 von 5 Sternen It's useful if you already know the basics. 13. Januar 2014

I read Scott Kelby's LR5 book before reading this one by Mr. Evening. They have very different writing style. Mr. Kelby's book is very easy to read and follow and it shows a lot of pictures. The language is more folksy. This is wonderful for someone who had no previous experience with LR. Mr. Evening's style, on the other hand, is more formal. It reads like a textbook. It appears to go into a lot more details than Kelby. If you want completeness, this is the book for you. In summary, if you want something more digestible, you should pick Kelby; if you want to know what every button does in LR, Evening's book could be useful.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Difficult Read 3. August 2013
Von RWT - Veröffentlicht auf
There is a lot to like about this book. First, it is quite complete. Second, it is one of the first LR5 books to come out since Adobe released Lightroom 5. The publishing of the book is excellent; very nice color inserts in many places. A quality publication from that aspect. For a reference guide, this book almost does the trick.

Unfortunately, for me, the author's writing style is a difficult read. I find myself re-reading a lot of the material to understand what the author is trying to explain. What should be simple, he often makes confusing. In other words, I'm not impressed with the clarity of his writing style. Given that I've worked in previous version of LR for many years, I'm reasonably familiar with this application. Thus, I'm disappointed that I am struggling so much with this book.

In summary, this is not a bad book - just not a great book. As a result, I will most likely start looking for another reference book for LR5 to supplement/replace this book.

5.0 von 5 Sternen The best and most essential lightroom reference. 30. November 2013
Von Paul Pendlebury - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
It's introduction to Lightroom and explains the basics features, how to use it in your photographic workflow, and some advanced techniques in digital photo processing. I also have the essentially redundant books from Adobe Press and Scott Kelby. I prefer this book's writing style, its features chosen to explore in detail, and the overall results from its recommended system to develop photos.

However, if you have Mr. Evening's earlier books for Lightroom 1, 2, 3, or 4 you really don't need this book. The changes in Lightroom between versions are mostly minor improvements with a new feature or two thrown it to get you to upgrade. If you have a good understanding of the product from an earlier book, learning the changes from the next Lightroom release from Adobe marketing or web tutorials is a quicker and cheaper way to go. I bought versions 1 through 5 because I'm just that way. Having read them all I now know I didn't need to.

Having a copy is essential. Having multiple is an unnecessary extravagance. The is the best of the books between Martrin Evening, Scott Kelby, and Adobe Press.
