Kurzbeschreibung

Here is the 2014 release a parenting book forged in the heat of battle and proved out over time. Written in an easy-to-read style, Fred Lybrand calls for a return to common sense in parenting (away from pseudo-intellectual approaches that have been found wanting). The Absolute Quickest Way to Help Your Child Change provides a fresh perspective for individuals who feel helpless or lack the needed confidence in their parenting skills. It also makes a great couples study and is loaded with practical tips. If you are a couple who understands parenting, then you now have a book which explains what you've been doing (especially in your marriage).

5.0 von 5 Sternen So easy, so common sense, and it works! 30. März 1998
Von Ein Kunde - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

Positive reinforcement has always worked, but this book shows you specifics of how to use that tool. It teaches the parent a fair yet extremely effective way to train your child to behave. The concept is simple and easy and it works so quickly because of those things. A common sense tool for those of us who feel they've lost theirs! A+++!

5.0 von 5 Sternen You are the expert on your children 27. Juni 2014

I am so thankful for this book and this family who have a heart to help other families live to their fullest in what God has for them. I love that they are fellow homeschoolers who have used the same curriculum and similar methods as I have chosen and that's what drew me to read the book - Fred's very insightful and helpful posts on the RC pages.

Fred basically put into book form all that God has been showing me to do over the past 8 years in raising my children. Its basic common sense. What do you do when time outs stop working or grounding stop working? Your the expert on your kids -up the ante and find a better way to discipline. Reward good behavior and don't encourage bad (even in a negative way). I have been really good at rewarding good behavior and not so good at stopping bad behavior. Why? Because I allow my children to engage me in conflict rather than saying "this is what you need to do and these are the consequences of not doing it" and then walking away.

Fred mentioned shopping with his kids and how they didn't like it. My son doesn't either. Fred's solution was to increase the shopping trip by x amt of time till they learned not to complain. Lightbulb moment! My solution was to tell him to be quiet or else (and I never had a clue what or else would be, just that daddy would have to come up with it). So, now when he complains, I add another stop to our shopping trip. I only had to do it once to stop him fussing and complaining. Now if he starts to complain, I just have to ask if I need to add more places to go before we head home and he sits quietly for the rest of the trip. It's COMMON SENSE and IT WORKS! No spanking, grounding, time outs, pulling my hair out, having fits of tears and telling my husband to take his kids out of my sight until I can calm down enough to look at them again. None of that.

Last year when my parenting struggles hit an all time low with the conflict with my son (what is the deal with 7 yr old boys???), I really began to pray about what to do. Friends would advise me about oppositional disorder or tell to to read James Dobson (which I didn't really like his techniques) and give me a whole load of advice that just did not sit well in my heart. Then I realized that I if I have a problem with something, I usually consult the manual or call customer service and yet I was neglecting to consult the Manual regarding how to raise my kids and I wasn't asking his Creator, who knew exactly how to fix him, what I should do. James 1:5 (KJV) "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him." That began a process of us seeing many good changes in our kids (and they were actually really good kids to begin with, they just had bad moments). Fred's book not only gave me a little more insight on what to do and a few more ideas on getting faster results, but it confirmed everything that God had been speaking into my heart about child raising, all the way down to spanking. (This isn't a book about spanking for those anti-spankers, its about behavioral changes).

We live in a world where everybody wants an instant fix, but they want to do it their way instead of the ways that have been shown to work over and over because they are just plain common sense. And when you give them the common sense way of doing things, they get mad at you and say your judgmental when all you're trying to do is help them through your experiences. I think it takes someone very brave to step out and say, "Hey! I had that problem and this is how we fixed it." You don't have to accept what they say, but what does it hurt to try, unless you already know through experience that it won't work?

I constantly hear parents ask for help regarding different issues with their kids. Now I just tell them to get and read Fred's book. It works and I for one am very thankful that you took the time to open your and Jodie's lives and share the intimate details of how you chose to raise your kids and what worked for you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Encouraging It 27. November 2010
Von BrightNClear - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

Mr. Lybrand was spot on about actions being encouraged. Often, the difficulty is finding what you are doing that encourages the behaviors you'd rather not see. If you are looking for a book that holds your hand, walks you through every example, and tells you how to fix the situation, sorry to say, this is not your book. But, if you want someone to help you figure it out yourself, you're looking in the right place! And, maybe the best part, the idea of encouraging what you want to see applies to other areas of life beyond children, too--spouses, friends, at work...

5.0 von 5 Sternen Last Parenting book you will ever buy! 11. Mai 2010
Von LA1220 - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
I have a degree in Child Development, 3 children, have worked as a teacher, school director, teacher trainer and parent educator. I have purchased and read MANY parenting books. I have taught a variety of ways to handle behavior in young children. I have used a variety of techniques on my own children. All this to say that the only book parents really need is "The Absolute Quickest Way to Help Your Child Change". There is no rocket science here - just simple principles that work. As with most problems in life, when your perspective is adjusted and realigned with truth (God's truth), things begin to work themselves out. Dr. Lybrand has done a real service to families with the writing of this book.

I have been reading this book, and I just want to tell the author Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I have read quite a few parenting books and this is the first one that I can call “self-empowering”; the first that has allowed me to really feel confident in the knowledge that I have what it takes to parent my own children!
