Cynthia remembers John 24. April 2001
Von C.H. - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
A bittersweet memoir written by John's first wife Cynthia details their relationship from their days as art students to their hastily planned marriage to Beatlemania to John's meeting with Yoko Ono. John Lennon initially tried to block publication, but legally could not. Failing in that, he read it. He was genuinely surprised how the book was devoid of any malice (Cynthia never took any swipes at Yoko) and he stayed up all night reading this with a lump in his throat. You might do the same.

Another piece of the pie. 17. Juni 2003
Von Robin Perry - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
Cynthia's book was short on details once the Beatles took off but the information about the early days in Liverpool was fresh and a part of the story we hadn't heard before. Its obvious that John did love Cynthia at one time but they just grew apart. Cynthia proves herself to be a warm, realistic woman and one who still loves her John even to this day. A touching story.

A true "insider's" account of Liverpool life with John. 16. März 1999
Von Ein Kunde - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
This book is quite interesting because Cynthia WAS THERE during the beginnings of the Beatles. As John's girlfriend she hung out with the band and was privy to a lot of what went on. Not only does she give an account of her relationship with John during their art school days and beyond, she also has interesting anecdotes concerning what was going on with the Paul, George, Stu, Pete and eventually, Ringo. She tells of visiting John and Paul in Hamburg, her relationship with John's Aunt Mimi, her wedding, her pregnancy (not in that order!) the first American tour. All sorts of insider anecdotes because she was there. For someone who wants to know about Liverpool in the fifties and early sixties, the neighborhoods, the music, etc. this book is fun to read. Also, in later years, John stated that his son, Julian, was "born out of a wine bottle on a Saturday night." This book puts that statement to rest by showing that Cynthia was John's girlfriend and NOT a "one-night stand."

Aghast 15. März 2000
Von Ein Kunde - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
I was astonished to find this book out of print. Being an ardent Beatle/Lennon fan I have read a wide variety of biogs on Lennon. This book stands out, however, as a true gem. It oozes the very real warmth Cynthia felt for John in those early years. Her descriptions of The Blue Angle and Ye Crack are remarkably accurate. John's early, rough, witty character as an Art's student are also brought to life. Cynthia WAS there and she loved every moment. This love is evident in every line. This book is a MUST for every Lennon fan. I only wish I could buy a new edition.

Memoirs of a Beatle wife 4. Juni 2006
Von Kate - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
If your looking for a "kiss 'n' tell" book, forget about this one. There's no juicy gossip, steaming bedroom scenes, or malicious slander. It's just a down-to-earth account by John Lennon's classy first wife of the early days when they went to art school together, and later on, of what it was like to be married to the No. 1 Beatle during the height of Beatlemania. It is refreshing to hear a firsthand account by someone who lived through that era, even at the very center of it, and still managed to remain grounded throughout it. The author's perspective of Lennon is as a devoted wife who saw her husband as a man with strengths and weaknesses, not as a rock star. It may be a bit short on insights into Lennon's mind and creative genius, but there are other books that provide that view of him.
