"There must be a lot of real losers out there because I wasn't that impressive." Those words came from our hero, Rauf. It made me love him so much more!
He was absolutely cute and adorable and hilarious. I doubt that was what he intended, but his jealousy and the way he went about it was just awesome.
Unlike most of Lynne's other heroes, Rauf is actually a gentlemen. He does a few things that had me shaking my head, but honestly, they were more cute than anything else. All I wanted to do was hug him! Rauf was a true hero.
He kept messing up, mainly because he kept assuming the worst of Lily (who I absolutely adored). But really, he was just paranoid because he was completely in love with her. It was just adorable! And every time he realized he had messed up... He actually grovelled and apologized. He didn't put the blame on her like most of Lynne's other heroes do.
I overlooked the whole misunderstanding that kept them apart for two reasons.
One, this Harlequin had A LOT of his point of view. We could get into his head and see what he was thinking. He truly felt like he had let her down. Again, that was his own fault, for just assuming the worst. I'm glad that it skipped all that. The story starts when they reunite after almost three years. But it was better this way. He suffered a lot for believing the worst of her, but she also had time to grow up.
That's the second reason I forgave the almost three years that passed. Lily was threatened by her brother-in-law when she was just fifteen. Because of that, she was simply scared of men and even covered herself to not attract physical attention. Her brother-in-law is a disgusting rat- and even I feel bad for insulting the poor rats that way. Brett (the brother-in-law) is just icky. So when Rauf start pursuing her a few years back, she was kinda scared of him in a way. She totally loved him, but she was scared of what he made her feel. I feel sorry that they were apart, but it is the only time in which I will excuse it. He suffered all that time because he was in love with her (and he deserved it, for thinking bad of her). And she had time to go get help from a therapist.
But honestly, if you get a chance, CHECK IT OUT. Give it a read, because this one is just amazing! They spend about 98 percent of the book together. Those are the kind that I love. It is really cute that in several parts throughout the book, he feels like he's not good enough for her. Really, I think it's what we all want from a guy- for him to think the world of us.
He was kinda idiotic in the beginning, but it lasts so little, you barely even notice. Haha, and even when he's being like that, he struggles a lot to keep control around her. Just as all Alpha Males, everything Lily does, Rauf thinks she does it to tempt him. It's hilarious!
I absolutely loved it!
