The seventh book in the Women's-Murder-Club series consists of three cases: The teenage son of California's ex-governor has vanished, a series of arsons involving fatalities and s/o stalking Yuki. Contrary to the previous book in this series, the cases are connected and that itself is a major improvement.
The case of the missing ex-governor's son has been followed be the public intensely, because Michael had been born with an incurable heart defect and was much loved by the public. All of a sudden the police get an anonymous tip that Michael was seen entering the house of a prostitute on the evening of his disappearance.
Yuki is trying the prostitute before court. A very charming and highly acclaimed true-crime writer, who wants to write a true-crime book on the Michael Campion-case, wants to include Yuki in his book to get her point of view on things. Or so he says....
At the same time there is a series of fires at homes of the wealthy. All of them result in fatalities. It takes a while for the police & the SFFD arson investigators to determine whether the fires are accidental or arson. When they finally come to a conclusion, it is a gruesome one and the race is on....
"7th Heaven" was quite an unusual Patterson compared to his latest publications. Unusual because it does indeed have quite a lot of substance for a Patterson: firstly there is the much needed character development - at least on Lindsay's and Yuki's part. And secondly the chapters were indeed longer than just one page ;-).
Besides that there is quite a lot of thrill and a completely unforeseeable ending. Apart from a few loose ends that IMHO have not been tied up neatly, "7th Heaven" is truly an amazing and entertaining Patterson!
Thumbs up ;-)!
