On May 4, 1927, AMPAS came into formal existence and since then it has served as the primary forum for addressing industry-wide issues and honouring the achievements of those involved in film making. Robert Osborne, a columnist and critic for the Hollywood Reporter, uses a crisp, engaging style to discuss film developments and movie trends during 70 years of the Academy Awards. Each year of the Oscars is covered in detail, with an introduction that summarises the year's movie highlights, nominees and winners, followed by a complete listing of nominees and winners in all categories. Osborne also provides encapsulations of each decade, noting trends, scandals and political battles AMPAS waged. Former award winners were asked to write about their favourite Oscar memories and included is a rich and varied selection from the more than 120 personal responses submitted. In case you wanna know everything about the little golden boy, this is the book to read. As it comes directly from the Academy, it is undoubtely the best, most detailed and most reliable source of information you can get. From Wings to Titanic you'll find every single movie ever nominated and every single person who contributed in the art of moviemaking.

This fabulous book is informative, interesting and absolutely CRAMMED with excellent photos, many of which I am sure have never been published before (at least I had never seen them before reading this book). Robert Osborne's excellent book is as up to date as anything gets, the only awards not included having been given out less than a month ago. This book also includes a complete list of ALL nominees in every single category for each year, somehing I have found in no other book I have ever read on the subject.

An absolute MUST for all movie/trivia buffs!
